The Find: An Incredible, Affordable Sweaterdress

Sep 27, 2022

Yesterday, I took a conference call from the quiet of my Jeep and thumbed through Instagram while listening to the other attendees say the same thing 20 different ways.  And I was rolling my eyes for the tenth time, I spotted it: a sweater dress that was cool, stylish and cozy.  And did my sleep-deprived eyes deceive me?  Was the price under-$125?

Amazing.

This Mango Knit Openwork Dress does not disappoint.  The texture is incredible in person.  The pattern makes it really interesting.  And it looks so expensive in person (a friend bought it and was repeatedly asked which designer made it, only to be met with shock that it was Mango).

My only disappointment is that, because it’s Mango, the dress only runs to size 10.  Ever since they created their plus-size line, they’ve shrunk the available sizes in their misses line.  It’s a weird attempt at inclusivity.

Loving sweater dresses for fall?  This batwing dress from Amazon looks lovely on almost everyone.  This v-neck sweater dress comes in fall’s hottest color, rust.  Plus-size?  This Eloquii cardigan sweater dress is awesome.

The next step in size inclusivity really ought to be doing away with separate “regular” and plus sizing. There’s no magic cutoff where a body becomes plus all of a sudden. I’m usually a size 14 which often means that I’m too big for a 12 and too small for a 1x even at an “inclusive” store. Stores like old navy and universal standard that run straight through without an artificial separation are a god send, I hope other places like mango pay attention and redo their sizing.

The Mango sweater dress is beautiful, but…what does one wear under it? If it has actual…holes? Also, isn’t that chilly?

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
