Living in Washington, D.C., my skin was dewy on a good day, an oil slick on a humid one. I remember being in a bar once and a male friend asking me how I got my skin to look ‘so wet’ all the time. The way he said it, it sounded like he thought this was an accomplishment, but it felt like a burn.
If you’re struggling with spring/summer shine, these products can help.
The issue with shine-removing blotting papers is that they remove makeup. And adding more makeup just causes problems. So when I spotted this Revlon Oil-Absorbing Volcanic Roller, I was like, “you have my attention.”
The porous stone in the roller absorbs oil and reduces shine without removing makeup. One swipe, and my t-zone looks as fresh as it did when I left the house that morning. Just rinse the stone with water from time to time to keep it gunk free. #gamechanger
Skinceuticals Physical Matte UV Defense Sunscreen is the thing for hot, humid conditions. It has SPF 50, and a weightless mousse texture that dries to a soft powder finish. My one caution is that if you’re having photos take (ie. outdoor wedding), it will give your face a white cast in photos. But on a regular day, this fab product will protect you from the sun and keep your skin looking matte all day.
My wedding was at 11:00AM on a hot summer day. The party ended at 11:00PM. So my makeup got put through its paces. Urban Decay’s De-Slick Setting Spray kept everything in place and looking fresh for those 12-hours. It is the best product for fresh-looking makeup in less than fresh conditions.

Thanks for sharing these great products! Living in the DC swamp, I can’t wait to try them!
Can vouch for the roller ball thingy. It leaves your makeup but takes the shine. I don’t get how it works but love it.
I can vouch for it. I roll it over my t-zone, the makeup is there, the shine is not. Maybe it’s magic elves. I may be losing a little makeup, but it is nothing like I lose with a tissue or blotting paper.
Totally second the praise for Urban Decay setting spray. I think I used their All Nighter spray for my wedding (August in New Orleans… ugh). Got the tip from a friend who is a news reporter. She uses it to keep her makeup in place when she reports on location during hurricanes. 🙂
I like blotting paper — Tatcha makes a nice one.
