Two Ways: A Black Dotted Blouse

Nov 9, 2020

Last week, I planned to share more work content.  Sadly, the week got away from me, as it did from most of us.  But I promised a Two Ways using the dotted sheer blouse from Friday, so let me make good on that a bit late.

Blouse // This dotted blouse from Boden is a fabulous piece.  It can be worn for casual Friday, for the office, or even for cocktail hour (whenever we have cocktail hour again).  Need more sheer options?  Check out Friday’s post.

Business Casual // I went a little dressier than work-from-home for this post.  Of course any pants with a waistband are considered dressing up these days.

The pants I chose are from Banana Republic, and they’re a dark green corduroy.  If you’re looking for a casual option for an at-home holiday dinner or something other than jeans to wear to work, these are a good place to start.  Plus-size?  Try these pants from QVC.

I chose my favorite J.Crew Regent blazer for this post.  It’s the best thing I purchased last year, so I also picked it up in black.

I finished off the look with these incredible Cole Haan flats.  The open detail on the back is pretty fabulous.  They’re also currently half-off on the Cole Haan website.  If they don’t have your size, try Amazon.  And don’t miss these chic enamel hoops.

I would wear my hair up in a simple updo for second-day hair.  For the makeup, I would keep it natural with a sheer lip.

For the Office // I stuck with a classic combination for this outfit — black and white.  It’s just so easy.  Even on mornings when I’m tired beyond measure, if I need to look my best, I can always reach for this outfit.

There are so many deals on workwear right now.  This $398 Alice + Olivia blazer is under-$125.  The hook-and-eye closure is very sleek.  If you’re hunting for work clothes, I would be window shopping Saks sale section regularly.  They have lots of designer pieces on deep sale.

For the skirt, I chose this ponte option from Ann Taylor.  If you need a plus-size option, this Modcloth skirt with a front-slit option that runs up to 4x.

This Trapeze Satchel from Cuyana is a great work bag.  It’s large, looks great, and hauls a lot (it can get a bit heavy though fully packed).  If you’re looking for something in a similar size for under-$175, try the Matt & Nat Gloria bag.

The jewelry is all from Madewell.  For under-$50, their archway ring and pearl earrings are nice pieces.

I finished the look with these Stuart Weitzman pumps.  Much like Saks, SW is having great sales right now.  So if you’re interested in upgrading your footwear, don’t miss their current sale.

For the office, I’ve been doing minimal makeup.  The key to getting away with less on your face is to fill in your brows and use a bit more mascara.

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
