Happy Hour: Hot Toddy Rules

Sep 27, 2019

New Rule: If the forecast where you live predicts snow, you’re allowed to put up a hot cocktail, even in September.  Yes, snow.

It’s 82-degrees in Washington, D.C. today.  Tell me again, why I moved?  Something about my future, but it all seems very fuzzy as I search this closet for snow boots and gloves.

I’d like to thank  Carolina Girl Cooks for posting the cocktail that I will be drinking every time I get sick this winter: The Earl Grey Hot Toddy.  Which, hopefully, is far less than last winter (The Montana Capitol Crud is real).  I will be making mine with vanilla bourbon, to give it that London Fog kick.

Here’s hoping that I drink them in good health.

Some of you saw the Gucci coat with the bow neck that I posted to the blog on Tuesday.  It is a dream.  But, alas, it is my mortgage, so it is impossible.

Instead, I’m considering this Boden trimmed coat that is equal parts chic and fun.  I adore this red and navy combo, but it also comes in subtler baby blue with navy trim option.

Boden always has fun coats.  Their Hengrave coat has a fun contrasting liner that’s visible at the collar.  And their Lovelace coat is a celebration of color blocking.

Love the whimsy, but not the price point?  Try Modcloth.  I love the dramatic collar on this green peacoat.

The thought of anything under 85 degrees sounds heavenly. Instagram posts of pumpkins and hot drinks have me dreaming of a full day sans sweat. Thank for helping us overheated southern readers feel like there’s a hope that summer could end..

I just checked, and it’s supposed to be a high of 95 in Arlington on Wednesday, which would set a new record. I am a hot weather kind of person, but this is a bit much even for me.

How about I FedEx you 20 degrees or so?

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
