I’m always hunting for new hairstyles. My daily hot-roller style is lovely and easy, but it gets a bit boring. Here are a few of the new styles that I’ve tried and liked.
Wand Curls. I like wearing my hair in curls, but I hate the too-perfect barrel curls. A few weeks ago, I picked up a curling wand, and I love the larger, tousled waves it gives you. This NuMe wand comes with several attachments to create different styles. For an less expensive option, this Sephora curling wand has good reviews.
For tutorial, this YouTube video will give you relaxed, beach waves. I also like this video for beginners. It takes some practice, but once you get in the groove, it’s easy. I recommend wearing the heat-proof glove; I torched my thumb because I was too cool for the glove. Don’t be like me.
Topsy Half Do. This pretty half-up do is an easy hairstyle for any hair length. It may seem idiot proof, but why chance it? I own a TopsyTail (90s girls, you feel me) and I love that thing. Take it for one turn, or repeat the style to create a “lazy girl” braid.
Braided Updos. If you’ve tried every chignon, twist, and bun, why not try a braided updo? The tutorial for the photo is a bit tough to follow. This Hair Romance tutorial has photos so it’s easier to replicate. Either way, I love the added texture and the security it provides for days when that one section of hair keeps falling out of your twist.
Tools you need for this style include clear elastics and salon-quality hair pins in various widths. I also recommend a good hairspray, like BTZ Frozen Stiff.
Need more hair inspiration? Buzzfeed has 30 no-heat hairstyles. Brit + Co. has styles for short hair. Cosmo has some interesting tutorials, though I’m not sure how “easy” a few of them are.
Oh man, the Topsy Tail! Do they still sell those or did you somehow manage to hang on to your original one??
They sell em. They’re $5.
Thank you! I’ve been needing hair inspiration – especially for unwashed hair.
I love the first look. But I have SO MUCH HAIR (incredibly thick + just past the collarbone) that that I doubt I could create that look in under 30 minutes. :/
The tousled lob is so played out right now… can’t we ladies find a new hairstyle??
Did I miss the Academy Awards Style Wrap Up Post? It is one of my favorites each year!
Oh god, gloves for curling wands and mandolines – both things I thought I was too cool for, both things I terribly regretted. Scars to prove it. Wands are lovely, though.
