Ask Belle: Mid-Price Brown Handbags

Feb 9, 2015

Hi Belle,

I’m about to accept a job offer after having been unemployed for several months due to a long distance move for my husband’s job, and I’d like to get myself a nice purse to celebrate.  I already have several nice black purses, so I’m hoping to get something in the brown/camel/cream color family.  I’d like a bag that has a handle drop long enough to carry it comfortably on my shoulder.  I’d prefer to spend between $100-150.

Thanks!! Anon

Women are always asking for advice for black purse shopping, so it’s nice to change it up a bit.  Here are some suggestions for brown and beige handbags.

Kate Landry Sharon Satchel ($89)

I adore this bag.  The pockets, the cross body strap, the sleek shape–sublime.  This is it’s third trip around the blog and with good reason.  The drop may not be as long as you want, so let’s keep looking.

Foley + Corinna Frances Satchel ($105)

Such a unique shape, and a good deal to boot.  No wonder there are only four left.

Calvin Klein Reversible Tote ($138)

Unlike most reversible totes, this one has more structure to it.  It comes in your choice of five neutral colors, including this saddle brown.  I also like the chic hardware.

Vince Camuto Leila Tote ($148)

I love rich, cognac shades, but if you’re not into that, mushroom is a nice alternative.  It looks great with other neutrals or colors.  I also like the minimal hardware.

Ivanka Trump Victoria Shopper ($102)

How fun is the puffy shape of this tote?  It’s slouchy, but with a bit of structure.  The look is a good mix of casual and professional.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
