Ask Belle: Ponchos for Fall

Oct 14, 2014

Hi Belle,

What is your take on ponchos? I find myself liking the look of them for fall, but it seems like a trend that is either in or really out. Think Ugly Betty.  I like the look of this one from Anthropologie, but I don’t want to spend over $100 on something that will be out of fashion right away.

What do you think? Have you seen any less expensive options?

Thanks! Mackenzie

I love a chic poncho for fall.  It’s a great alternative to a light jacket or chunky sweater.  They’re also the perfect option for traveling.

This inexpensive black and oatmeal striped poncho from Off 5th is similar to the Anthro option you referenced.  I really like this Alfani poncho with a turtleneck and a button sleeve (also in petite).

Looking for something loose and free-flowing?  This Dillard’s poncho comes in six beautiful colors for under-$50.  But the best thing I found is this Wallis textured poncho with a chunky draped neck and fringe.

Plus-size?  This Calvin Klein cape-style poncho with buckle detail is a great option.

I just bought my very first poncho from the limited (of all places). I had not shopped there in ages but stopped in to check out the scandal collection and walked out with the Buttoned Poncho. Totally agree — a great weekend topper and perfect for traveling.

  2. Wow that 360 poncho and the fringey poncho are both great! I kinda love the poncho look in general.

I LOVE the idea of this, but what other elements do you pair with a poncho? Tights or skinny jeans? What about jewelry and shoes? I just want to avoid looking like a bag. 🙂 How do you make it chic?

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
