Two Ways: Emerald Green Pumps

Shoes: VC Hallee Pump ($98)

From Left, Ring: Kelly Wearstler Malachite Ring ($250) Jacket: Mango Jacquard Jacket ($110) Bag: Zara Mini-Office City Bag ($50) Top: Theory Madlan V-neck ($225) Pants: J.Crew Stovepipe Trouser ($158)

From Right, Earrings: Blu Bijoux Grey Oval Earrings ($22) Bracelet: Kendra Scott Roni Cuff ($150) Clutch: Claremont Clutch ($158) Dress: Mango Fitted Draped Dress ($60)

For the Office.  I love mixing grey and white regardless of the season.  I just don’t buy into the idea that a person can’t wear white after Labor Day.  I wouldn’t advise wearing a white sundress or white shoes, but a white blazer shouldn’t be a problem.

I love the clean lines and the shoulder detail on this Jacquard jacket from Mango.  However, if you’d like something that says chilly weather with gusto, try a white and grey tweed jacket like this awesome number from Rebecca Taylor.  Plus-size ladies might like this jacket from Michael Kors in ivory tweed with zipper detail.

This dove grey blouse from Theory would look lovely under a blazer or a belted cardigan in a jewel tone, like this boyfriend cardigan from Target.  Need a cheaper alternative? This longsleeve Trouve blouse is $74, while this darker, short sleeve blouse from Pleione is $58.

Despite J.Crew’s quality issues, they still make a great wool trouser.  Sadly, they’re not lined, but I’ve never found that to be too much of an issue.  On the less expensive side, Ann Taylor has a lovely pair of wool trousers on sale for under-$100.

For the accessories, I chose a burgundy-colored handbag to contrast with the emerald-colored shoe.  It’s one of my favorite combinations for fall.  I also picked this malachite ring from Kelly Wearstler for another pop of green.  If you’re a bargain shopper, I also found this oversized ring with a green stone at Mango for $8.

For the hair, I would wear it up in a Gibson roll to show off the shoulder detail on the jacket.  For the makeup, I would pair a burgundy nail color (OPI Bogota Blackberry) with a glossy burgundy lip color (Bare Minerals Moxie Lipstick in Lead the Way).

For a Wedding.  I have two semi-formal weddings on my calendar for the fall.  Neither will be quite dressy enough for cocktail attire, but I still want to look my best.  So I thought that this DvF knock-off from Mango would fit the bill just fine.  It has some drama in the neckline and a comfortable cut that’s perfect for a wedding-plus-reception-plus-after-party.

I added a simple grey J.Crew clutch because I couldn’t find a green clutch in a reasonable price point where the greens matched.  I did find this gorgeous Alexander McQueen clutch, but even on sale, $700 is just more than my blood pressure can bear.  If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to the J.Crew option, try this Halogen Continental Clutch for $98.

For the jewelry, I adore this light cuff from Kendra Scott.  And since I know we have some silver lovers in the group, you’ll be pleased to hear that it also comes in a white metal option.  The earrings are also an amazing buy at $22.  They remind me of a much more expensive Alexis Bittar pair that I have been eyeing.

For the makeup, I would do a grey smoky eye.  This palette from Physician’s Formula has all the colors you need for a cool $12.  For the hair, I would wear it down and in waves.  I can never get my hair to stay curly all night, but somehow the ladies at DryBar can.  It’s really a mystery.

It’s frustrating when clothing ideas are posted, but the link to the store only carries the item is sizes to fit dwarfs (size 0, 2, etc.)

    • Belle says:

I don’t think you need to refer to women who are smaller sizes as dwarfs. It’s really derogatory. Just as much so as if someone referred to women in larger sizes as giants.

That being said, sometimes things sell out. Sometimes they’re from a site where they’re already on closeout. That’s one of the reasons why I try to provide alternatives where I can, but if I find the perfect item and it’s only in a few sizes, and I can’t find a good alternative, I’ll stick with the original.

You shouldn’t have to defend your choices on the blog you run for free which the rest of us enjoy.

Thank you! I am on the small scale in sizes and usually it’s the other way around – all the small sizes are sold out. To top it off, it’s annoying when people make insulting comments about my small size.

        Well said, Belle.

YAY! I have a white blazer that I love and wanted someone to okay me.

Do you own that Mango dress? How is the fabric? Is it lined? I feel like it might be perfect but want to make sure it’s thick enough to hide some postpartum lumps.

I love the Mango dress. Do you think the red one is appropriate for a wedding? I’ve read conflicting opinions about the appropriateness of a red dress for a wedding guest.

    • Belle says:

I go back and forth on the appropriateness of red at weddings. But my feeling is that if you’re at all uncomfortable about it, just don’t do it.

I have some similar emerald green suede pumps from Calvin Klein a few years ago. Thanks for inspiring me to be excited about them again!
