Five Spring Transitions Sweaters You Can Actually Afford

Feb 23, 2010

Next week, Capitol Hill Style will feature our tradition Spring Issue, a full week of the colors, styles and fashion trends that you should be wearing this season.  To tide you over until then, here are five colorful sweaters that will brighten up your transition wardrobe and keep you warm in these chilly temps.  Oh, and did I mention that they’re all under $100?

Merino Larkspur Cardigan (J.Crew, $98)

Isn’t this citron colored cardi just a breath of fresh air?  I’m suddenly so giddy that I could spin on a mountain top like Julie Andrews.  Okay, maybe not that giddy, but as a prisoner of the unending D.C. winter, I’ll take whatever sunshine I can get.

Knitted Button Cardigan (TopShop, $65)

Nudes are really hot last season.  I know I said that last Spring too, but this Spring, they are everywhere.  I also love the little gold buttons.

Ruched Ribbed Sweater (Forever 21, $20)

Let me first say that my Mother is cringing right now because she hates cornflower/country blue.  Hates it.  However, this puffed sleeve pullover would be positively delightful with a dove grey pencil skirt paired with navy blue and charcoal accessories.

Merino Marled Striped Cardigan (Banana Republic, $69)

I love coral, but sometimes too much coral is a bad thing.  This cardigan tones down the bright hue by pairing it with a soft heather grey to create a casual striped sweater that is perfect for Saturday errands or Sundays on the couch.  Just add jeans and a flat boot.

Knitted Stud Jumper (TopShop, $80)

This minty green scoopneck sweater gets an infusion of rocker-chic from the studded shoulderpads.  Pair it with a pencil skirt for a pretty punk vibe that is perfect for Monday meetings and Sunday brunch.  But beware, it’s a little see through, so remember the nude tank underneath.

The Find: A Versatile Sweater Jacket

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.
