Fall 2010: Shoes for Now and Later

Jul 8, 2010

Each Summer, you get to a point where you want to keep buying warm weather attire but all the retailers are selling is items for Fall.  With this shopping conundrum just weeks away, it’s time to start buying pieces that could transition between Summer and Fall.  After all, if you can’t wear the item tomorrow, you probably won’t buy it.  And then in three months, when you come back to get it, it will be sold out in your size.  Am I right?

Today, we’re going to look at three pairs of shoes that bridge the gap between July and September in style.  Because the hardest part of transitional attire is usually the footwear.

Nine West Evenly Bootie (Piperlime, $90)

It took me a long time to warm up to the bootie as more than just a passing fad.  But now, after a few years on the market, designers are creating booties in every possible shape, style and price point proving that they are here to stay.

These nude, peep-toe booties would look fabulous with a Summer dress and would add a bit of oomph to jeans when the weather turns cool.  The color keeps them light enough that you could wear them tomorrow, but the style could easily carry you into Fall.

Lucky Brand Carlal Boot (Piperlime, $189)

As a Western girl, I love the look of cowboy boots with a floral dress for Summer.  There’s just something so feminine about the juxtaposition between the worn leather boot and the soft cotton dress.

These boots from Lucky Brand have perforated details for a hint of pretty, and a deep cognac color that goes with anything.  I would wear these with a loose cotton dress for a Summer barbecue or afternoon brunch.  But I would happily pair them with black tights and a black sweater dress in a few months.

Matt Bernson Matinee Flat (Piperlime, $99)

A metallic flat is one of the best basics that you can buy.  This Oxford inspired, laceless flat would look chic and sweet with a pair of shorts and a button down shirt.  Then in a couple of months, you can pair it with a pencil skirt, white tee and belted cardigan.  And if you want to spice it up a little more, you can add colored laces for a preppy, pretty feel.

As you predicted, I received Nordstrom’s fall items sale catalog last night. Hard to look at boots and sweaters in 100-degree heat.

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
