Weekly Reading: Volume XII

Aug 13, 2010

After five days, almost 200 entries, and many entertaining stories of lateness and promptness, it is time to announce the winner of the MICHELE watch giveaway:

Denise B who commented on August 9, you won!  Please e-mail me at capitolhillstyle (at) gmail (dot) com.

Hope you like the watch!

Sample Sale.  Recently, I’ve heard from several readers asking for invites to sample sale sites, so I thought I would post them on the blog.  If you have yet to join Gilt Groupe or Rue La La, you should.  Some of my favorite pieces were purchased at tremendous discounts thank to these sites.

These Boots Were Made for Walking.  I’ve been out West for a few days surrounded by ranchers and hired hands, so I have boots on the brain.  Maybe that’s why I like Reese Witherspoon’s city-fied take on cowboy boots so much.

Date Night. The Glamazon Diaries applied her styling genius to an outfit perfect for Summer date night.  Who wouldn’t want to wear a white eyelet dress with turquoise jewelry and a cool studded bag?  Soooo cute.

Beyond Project Runway.  Wit & Whimsy has a review of Nina Garcia’s new fashion bible, Look Book.  Too bad I can’t skip down to Barnes and Noble and pick one up (the West has a shocking lack of bookstores, and everything else for that matter).  Perhaps, they will have it in the airport bookstore tomorrow?

She Bangs.  I’ve had bangs my entire life, so I was thrilled a few years back when fringe became fashionable again.  If you want to try a new look, Glamour has three different styles for you to try.  So whether you’re looking for extreme bangs or just some swept up fringes, these looks will work on almost anyone.

Look, I love your take on fashion, but your travel commentary? Not so much.

    Ouch.

  3. Alison M. says:

Another great sample site that I love: ideeli.com. Also, if you haven't yet, sign up for theoutnet.com updates. It's the discount sister site for Net-A-Porter. Super deals at both, so check them out.

Stephanie-For all the complaints that you leave in the comments, I'm surprised that you like anything on this site. Perhaps, you might want to find a new place to read.

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]
