Sometimes I deeply miss my old work wardrobe. The pretty dresses. The tailored blazers. The fabulous suits. After a lifetime in professional offices, readjusting to working in my basement office has been a challenge.
Also challenging? Figuring out how to dress for hybrid days when I need to take Sloane to a class or take her on a lunchtime playdate. And this outfit is the option that seems to work best for both.
Sweatshirt // If I don’t have a Zoom call, I have a lot of freedom to wear what I want, but I always want to be prepared for a snap meeting. A stylish sweatshirt with a tee or button down under it is relaxed but looks nicer than just a t-shirt. And it’s a comfortable, spill-friendly option if you’re also taking care of a kid that day.
I own this Boden sweatshirt in this green floral and an extremely bold, colorful print. I also like Clare V.’s graphic sweatshirts. Anthropologie always has nice options. For a less expensive option, American Eagle has a few options; I really like this bright citron henley style.
White Tee. We’ve talked about this Hanes tee before, and I still love it. For $8, it’s a great tee. If I want to accomplish a layered look, I use a little bit of clear fashion tape to make sure the neck of the tee is visible under the neck of the sweatshirt.
Relaxed Jeans. I own dressier jeans for going out, but at home, I just want something easy to wear. Something comfortable with a wide leg generally works best. And I often choose an ankle-length jeans so I can wear them with any flat shoes I own without issues.
These Paige Leenah jeans are my favorites. I put a bit of fray check on the ends to make sure the undone hem doesn’t look messy. Abercrombie makes a <$75 pair in this style that are also great. These Old Navy jeans run into plus-sizes and have a similar look.
Sneakers. Flats are great, but on a regular day, to chase my very fast toddler, I need sneakers. These New Balance sneakers are still my favorite. I have a black pair and a light pair. Recently, I purchased a pair of color suede sneakers to wear with neutrals.
If I want to wear flats with this look, I own these silver flats, and those are my first choice. They spruce up the look a bit.
Hoops. When I wear an outfit this relaxed, I try to wear more substantial jewelry. My diamond studs are lovely, but these Monica Vinader huggie hoops give a little more oomph. These square-shaped hoops are also a nice option.
I also like a substantial collar necklace. This one from Melinda Maria is very impactful and mixes pretty with a bit of rocker chic. And I always prefer when the shape of the necklace complements the neckline of the top.
Styling. If I wear a sweatshirt and jeans on a work day, I almost always wear my hair up in a cute tuck and I wear lipstick. This outfit can look a bit too relaxed for work or a little laze if you don’t give the makeup and hair and an extra zhujj. So a simple updo, a bit more eyeliner and a nice lip really lifts it.

I was JUST searching for WFH hybrid outfits like this on Pinterest! More of this, please!
That sweatshirt is incredible. Buying immediately.
Ooh this sweatshirt is fabulous! I have similar flats from Old Navy and haven’t worn them yet because, hi, snow. I would love a post on what to style them with! For the sweatshirt, TTS or size up or what?
Also not a mom, but loving this look in general.

That is an amazing sweatshirt!
I wear a similar combination except I sub a Loft blouse for the sweatshirt. When I stock up on sale they actually cost less than a casual sweatshirt or tee. It took awhile to mentally wear them to clean or go to the park but it works. They’ve lasted for years of machine washings and I always look pulled together.
