Today, we are boarding a plane for the holidays. This is Sloane’s first flight. To say that I am nervous would be an understatement. My very active toddler struggles to sit through a meal, a two-and-a-half-hour flight seems like a lot to ask.
We have an iPad loaded with Moana, Bluey, Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventures, and Finding Nemo. We have the unicorn headphones. We have a spinning container full of snacks. The CARES seat harness to avoid hauling a car seat. And Jesus…we have Jesus.
Shopbop is having a 25% off sale site wide, no spending limit (CODE: HOLIDAY). I do not have 30 products to recommended in a seemingly endless carousel of Instagram slides. I have just a handful of products that I actually bought this fall, loved and have been waiting to share until the sale hit.
I bought these Larroude silver ballet flats as a Christmas gift for myself. They are the perfect thing for a stylish Mom who is almost always in denim these days. I bought my true size, but they needed a little stretching for my high arches.
I bought this Askk NY henley because I wanted a casual shirt with a little bit of style, and I think the large buttons give it that. The size guide is off; size guide said 3 but 2 was the right one for my size 6-36C top.
This Aligne Clay Sweater in an unexpected green hue is the perfect WFH or in office piece. I love the color in person. It looks so chic. I wear it with wide leg jeans and trousers. I’ve also worn it over a v-neck black sheath dress with kitten heels.
This Tanya Taylor Top and Tanya Taylor dress are on HEAVY rotation in my closet. Both are chic, but relaxed. Great for fall, winter, spring. On sale, I would snap them up in a second due to the cost-per-wear and how great I feel in them, but they’re a little spendy. I’m in a Medium.
Lastly, Varley. Just everything from Varley. Buy all of it. I recently purchased this chocolate brown sweatshirt and leggings, and not only does my rear view look great in them, I like that they have that cool Mom vibe for Sunday errands.
Bon Appetit Magazine’s Instagram account has been doing God’s work in the run up to Thanksgiving. If you’re hosting or bringing food, please take a moment to give it a look. The green beans with crispy shallots are amazing. And if you need a stuffing recipe, they have the one. The only one.
Plus, the account is full of lots of great tips about making things the day before and hosting suggestions. Following the account has honestly made me wish I was I was hosting this year.
It’s a short post because the packing for one grown woman and one toddler took longer than imagined. But I hope you have a lovely holiday and safe travels if you’re going somewhere.

Besides the air pressure equalization, note that toddler pooping gets out of whack with the landing
This is probably common flight knowledge but I found this out the hard way: do not bring any water bottles that have a straw or you will risk squirting you and your roommates (and people a row behind you!) with water. (Thankfully everyone was very kind about it when I did this not once but twice during the same flight!!)
Sit at the back so you’ll be close to the bathroom and only bothering the ppl in front of you
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, Abra! Hope you all survive the flight with relative grace, and enjoy your time away!
Best of luck traveling. One recommendation is one of those toddler plane tray covers, not only for the germs, but it has stand up sides to keep all of their nonsense (snacks, markers, ipad) from sliding off the back of the tray! Also, I highly recommend click markers so you dont have to keep track of tops!
One last rec, Construction Site Taking Flight is a great book to acquaint toddlers w all the “cool” things to look for at the airport.
You got this!
Best of luck – we just took our twin 5 yr old boys on their first flight (from CA to Japan) and it was a lot easier than I psyched myself up for. To be fair, they were thrilled with the unlimited media time and that got us through almost all of it.
*Non seq – but I love Spanx’s Air Essentials even more than Varley.
