Two Products for the “No Makeup” Look

Nov 4, 2024

I’ve talked before about the strangeness of aging. How I look in the mirror now and see someone who resembles myself, but doesn’t have the face that looked back at me for 20+ years. This rather sudden evolution has led me to wear makeup more frequently than I used to do. And even when I’m not wearing makeup, I’m wearing something. Here are two products for when a full face of makeup feels silly, but you need a touch up.

Erborian CC Red Correct // As a middle-age acne sufferer, this product has made my weekend life significantly easier. It’s like an Instagram filter you wear on your face. You wake up with skin that’s a little splotchy, a little red, a little dull looking and this product brightens, tones, and smooths just slightly.

I used to use Dr. Jart’s Cicapair cream for that “just a little” look, but I like this product significantly more. It’s not as messy. It doesn’t have that slightly greasy feeling, and it looks more natural when blended in.

I ran out of this product in July, unexpectedly, while on a trip. I ordered it immediately to make sure the new tube would be there when I got home. I then spent the rest of the trip wondering why I didn’t restock prior to departing. It’s that good.

This Erborian CC Cream ($25) is one of my most recommended products. It’s always in my makeup bag, and it’s great for that work from home life.

Iris & Romeo Best Days Skin // This product was one of my Sephora Sale purchases (20% off with code SAVINGS).  I purchased it first thing Friday morning, had it delivered to my home, and put it on immediately.  Then, I proceeded to wear it every day this weekend.

The product is applied with fingers instead of a brush because the warmth of your hands helps blend it.  It feels like you’re applying a lot of product, because you’re using your fingers, but I was surprised how little I had removed from the jar every time.  So I think this one jar will last a significant amount of time.

Best Skin Days ($48) is a light coverage product.  More like a high quality tinted moisturizer souped up with serum and SPF.  So while it offers more coverage than the Erborian, it is still not a full face of makeup.  It also comes in a wider range of skin tones than most tinted moisturizers or CC Creams.

For errands on Saturday, I wore it solo with just some under eye corrector, mascara and a touch of blush.  For Brunch Sunday, I added a bit of concealer, powder, and bronzer.  Both looks were less makeup than I usually wear to work, but still looked better than nothing at all or just CC Cream.

Personally, given the unevenness of my acne scarring, this is not the amazing product that I hoped it would be.  However, a friend bought it as well, and while she doesn’t have “perfect skin” she does have more even texture.  She is VERY happy with it and has been raving about it on Instagram since she bought it.  So your mileage may vary.  All that being said, I’m still happy to have a lighter foundation option for work from home or casual days.

Both of these products are great for women who want a little something but not a full face.  I recommend them both.

Can you talk more about how you use the Erborian CC Red Correct? How do you apply and blend? What do you wear on top?

    Thank you!!

Have you ever tried Jones Road products? Their foundation seems similar and I’m working through mine first before trying Best Days. I will have to try the Erborian after finishing my Dr Jarts stockpile, good to know that there’s something even better!

Seconding the Erborian CC Red Correct! One of the very few (only?) product I have purchased again after running out. If you happen to be a Duty Free in Europe you can buy it a discount.
