Gift Guide 2023: Hard-to-Shop-for Ladies

Dec 12, 2023

This gift guide could best be described as what to buy women who are hard to buy for.  This might be a mother-in-law, a sister, a friend, a mentor — the one lady who needs something special under the tree.  Let’s go.

A Gorgeous Wreath // Flowers are a beautiful gift, but they perish too quickly.  A tasteful door wreath is a great gift for almost anyone from Nana to your boss.  They also make a wonderful hostess gift.  This magnolia wreath looks great today and three months from now.  I also love this dried olive wreath.  Add a wide ribbon to give it a little something more.

A Party Bag // A fun, stylish bag comes in handy this time of year.  I adore this beaded bag with an oversized chain.  This Madewell mini hobo bag comes highly reviewed.  I also like this velvet flap bag in a lovely selection of colors.

A Faux-Fur Throw // I received this Unhide Lil Marsh throw in a FabFitFun box.  It is one of my Top Ten possessions.  When I traveled to Montana for the Legislature in 2021 and 2023, it came with me.  It is warm.  It is cozy.  It is the softest thing I have ever felt.  No other faux fur throw will do.  This would be a fabulous gift for anyone living in a shared space like a dorm or an assisted living facility.

A Fun Sweatshirt // If you’re in need of a fun gift for your sister or a friend, a cool sweatshirt to chill in is a good gift.  I love this Apres Ski sweatshirt and this one that’s slightly more fun (which I see on so many ladies headed boarding planes to SLC).  I own this Troop Beverly Hills sweatshirt.  Anthropologie also has a great selection of sweatshirts.

A Beloved Face Mask // The Clarins CryoFlash Cream Mask is sold out almost everywhere, but not at Macy’s.  Widely loved, even by me, this mask is a welcome gift for any woman you know.  If she already owns it, she’ll be grateful for a backup.  If she doesn’t, she is almost guaranteed to love it.  Other choices for luxurious beauty gifts include this K18 hair care set, this Fresh black tea face mask and Dior Creme Apricot.

Custom Luggage Tags // I posted these laser etched luggage tags last year, and they are still a great gift.  If you want something a little nicer, try these leather ones from Nordstrom.

A Cozy Pajama // A soft, comfy pajama is the gift that keeps on giving.  At the end of a long day, nothing is quite as nice as a great pair of pajamas.  J.Crew has some wonderful sets (also in plus size).  They hold up very well.  If you want some more exciting prints, Ann Taylor (surprisingly) has them.

Consumable Gifts // If you have a recipient who absolutely doesn’t want anymore clutter, a consumable gift is the perfect thing.  These interesting jams are great on breakfast toast or on a cheese board.  Fancy honeys are also fun.  And if you’re looking for a fun gift that turns into a fun activity, let Aunt Linda tell the kids about her favorite retro candy with a fun taste test.

So what is your go-to gift for the hard to shop for woman in your life?

LOVE a graphic sweatshirt moment. Styling tips?

  2. Carla says:

I own a few sets of those JCrew pjs (both the long and short versions) and I can attest to their longevity and comfort. And they are cute!

  3. Susan says:

Highly endorsing the luggage tags! I have given these to my mom and sister – they both LOVE them (and other family members are envious). High impact, sweet price point, and a good everyday basic that people don’t ordinarily buy themselves. I got the neon orange ones and people always ask about them! (Also: they ship quickly!)

  4. Emily says:

I bought my mom leopard print AT pajamas last year and she loves them and wears them weekly. They have held up great; would recommend!

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]
