Gift Guide: Best Friend Picks

Nov 17, 2023

The older you get, the more important your girlfriends become.  Oddly, you also have less time for them.  My best friends and I mostly just ping-pong memes back and forth in our DMs all day.  This is quality time with your friends in your 40s.  So get the woman who sends the best memes, who always picks up the phone, and who has your back a nice gift for the holidays.

Clare V. makes the coolest t-shirts and sweatshirts.  I adore this Oui sweatshirt in deep green.  I also love this hot pink Ciao t-shirt.  If you want a gift that gives back, Clare V. sells this wonderfully cool sweatshirt to benefit Every Mother Counts.

Everyone loves a great hand soap.  Compagnie de Provence makes the most incredible scented soaps and lotions.  They also come in these chic bottles that look lovely stationed next to the sink in your kitchen or powder room.  I like the Sparklng Citrus soap and hand cream set.  You could also snap up this Advent Calendar to let her try all the scents before settling on one.

Prefer a more minimalist look for the bottle?  Try the Byredo Vetyver hand soap.

So many initial charms are boring.  The same fonts.  The same look.  Lather, rinse, repeat.  I like this Loeffler Randall script charm because it’s different.  This Farfetch initial necklace has a blockier feel, but it’s also a more unique style.

Right now, you’re probably thinking, “Abra, a pillowcase?”  But not just any pillow case, a Silk Pillowcase.

If you suffer from dry skin or dry hair, the culprit may be your pillowcase because cotton pillowcases absorb moisture your hair and skin need.  Cotton pillowcases can also cause hair breakage or damage delicate skin.  Silk is gentler on skin and hair, and it doesn’t steal moisture from your body the way cotton does.  Switching can make a noticeable difference in your appearance.  Plus, this is one of those great gifts that most people would never buy for themselves, but will love if you buy it.

I have always said that a plant is just work masquerading as a gift, and I still believe that.  But some people like that work.  They like to nurture a plant and watch it grow.  This Arbequina Olive Tree is a unique choice.  Terrain has a many different plants — some odd, some common — and many bouquets.  All of them are the perfect gift for the plant lover in your life.

Speaking of jewelry, I bought this Soap Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner last year, and I love it.  I clean my jewelry at least once a month.  I’ve also used it to de-gunk other small items.  The company says it can be used with retainers and other dental appliances.  But you should see how shiny your baubles look after you drop them in here for a wash.  It’s a great gift for any woman who loves jewelry.

This Madewell Essential Bucket Tote is everywhere right now.  You see women who wouldn’t spent $200 on a purse carrying it right beside women who own a fleet of Chanel bags who are carrying it.  I like the deep indigo color above for something unique.  Madewell has it in multiple sizes and colors so there is something for everyone.

Another month has come and gone, and between a busy work schedule, illness and the search for new childcare, I almost forgot to ask for questions for the AMA.  Luckily, I remembered late last night.  So here we go. I always think it’s funny when people send rude or overly personal questions when I put […]

Add to Cart: Five Recent Amazon Purchases

Since my daughter was born, Amazon has claimed so much of my money that I had to buy stock just to get some of it back.  Between the formula, onesies, fruit pouches, diapers, wipes, and ever evolving list of baby development gear, I could not survive without Prime.   My husband no longer notices the […]
