Coat Week: The Fleece-y, Fuzzy Ones

Oct 24, 2023

Did I ever think that I would be advocating for the purchase of fuzzy coats?  About as much as I would have thought that my late-30s would be spent in the throes of a global pandemic. But life is surprising sometimes.

Fuzzy coats are everywhere this season.  The key to wearing this trend is to find one that 1) won’t make you look like a Muppet and 2) fits into your existing wardrobe.  Here are a few options that I would actually wear.

I would have posted this coat from Athleta stand alone; that’s how much I like it.  It’s perfect for casual wear.  Toss it on over leggings and a sweatshirt to run errands, do school drop-off or head to a brewery on Saturday afternoon.  I love that the quilted back keeps it from looking like you skinned a member of the Sesame Street cast.  Looking for a style for less?  Try Gilt.

I added this one because this preppy Letterman Jacket style item from Anthropologie is a really unique piece.  It makes a trendy, cool statement, but still feels very wearable.  Obviously, it works with denim.  I think it would also really jazz up a crewneck sweater dress.  It’s the kind of thing you’d toss over an outfit of basics and wind up with something show stopping.

On this day of surprises, this wide lapel coat is from Walmart.  The coat comes in four colors.  This is the army green, I also love the basic black. The black would make a fun coat for a holiday event over a sleek dress.  The green strikes me as something that would spruce up a simple weekend look.

When I was looking for a fleece jacket for myself, I was looking for moto jacket.  I wanted something that had a relaxed style with a slight edge to it.  (Or at least as edgy as you can be in a teddy bear coat.)  This BlankNYC jacket caught my eye immediately.  For the fit, it is quite oversized. I should be a medium, and it’s a bit oversized in small.  Not too big, but looking intentionally oversized.

This jacket from SAM screams apres ski.  I would buy the black, but I’m showing the white so you can see all the chic details.  I love the moto accents, the over-the-hand cuffs, and its devil may care attitude.
