  1. Cat says:

HBR equating introversion with shyness really rankles. They’re not the same thing! I am an introvert because I recharge with alone time or hanging with just my family. I am not shy about speaking up in meetings, chatting with people at networking events, or giving a presentation. The perspective I wish companies would have is that events out of work hours make me feel less “on” the next day than if I’d had that time to myself.

    • Jenn S. says:

I agree, Cat. I’m not only not-shy, I am specifically known for being outspoken! It feels like pieces like this are done by extroverts who don’t, “get it.” (Not that an extrovert cannot, “get it,” just that this/these ones don’t.) I need time to decompress in my own space without a bunch of other energy so I can return sharp and ready to tackle what the workday has ahead.

Sloane loves the pool. She jumps from the deck into the water with a crash, never considering her own safety, only to emerge on the surface, shouting “Again!” The pool is my daughter’s happy place. But no place where I need to wear a swimsuit in public is a happy one for me.

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
