The Range: Stunning Dresses for Summer Weddings

May 22, 2023

This summer, one of my former co-workers is headed to the wedding of an old friend.  She has dubbed this wedding, “The Revenge Wedding.”  Every woman in the bridal party, including the bride, has been divorced in the past three years.  All of their exes, excluding the bride’s, will be there due to the closeness of the friend group.

So when the text arrived on Saturday that my former co-worker needed the dress to wear to the reception (the ceremony dress was chosen by the bride), I knew which dress she meant.  After all, she hasn’t been skipping carbs since the Save the Date cards went out because she hates bread.

When you want to stand out at an event, I recommend two things: 1) wear color – no neutrals, and 2) hire someone to do your hair and makeup.  So even if the dress flops or you decide to recycle something from the back of your closet, you still look red carpet ready.  Here are some fabulous choices in different price points.

Corner Office

Tanya Taylor Maya Dress ($695)

Cubicle Farm

Amanda Uprichard Symone Dress ($282)

Front Desk

Norma Kamali Diana Ruched Dress ($127)

Plus-Size

City Chic Lace Touch Dress ($189)

These dresses are all stunning, and attention-grabbing… in which case I wouldn’t personally wear them to someone else’s wedding. A guest in a neon dress is going to stick out like a sore thumb in those wedding photos from the reception, and that’s annoying.

    • Belle says:

I think most of these rules have gone away. It seems the only hard and fast rule anymore is not to wear white.

Maybe it’s just where I live (hot weather year-round) but all the weddings I’ve attended have guests wearing colors like this… doesn’t stick out… I think these are lovely choices! I’ve not heard of any etiquette around only wearing muted colors to weddings…. maybe regional/cultural?

  2. Ashley says:

I have never wanted an update more! Oh to be at this wedding! Wishing the bride, an entire bridal party, joy!

  3. Colleen says:

Lovely picks! And the way it’s written makes it sound like the beginning of a “Normal Gossip” episode!

I just got the Norma Kamali Diana dress for an upcoming wedding. I tried both the gown and the dress. Both looked great and I ended up keeping the dress as it was the most versatile. It hugs the curves and the ruching is very flattering. It has a body suit inside and god help you if you don’t keep track of it when taking the dress off — it took me 5 minutes to sort out which way was what when I just pulled it off carelessly.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
