Summer Essentials: Shirtdresses for Work

Jun 6, 2022

Shirtdresses are perfect for summer.  For a casual office, dress it down and wear it any day of the week.  For a professional office, dress it up on Fridays for work.  Here are a few that caught my eye.

This floral dress from Tahari looks great on the model, iffy on the hanger.  It’s a pretty summer dress for less-than $50.

This shadow-stripe dress from Nanette Lepore gives basic navy a boost.

The print on this FRNCH dress is perfect for the office.  Add a black or white blazer and a sleek pump to finish the look.

Thie striped Proenza Schouler dress is the most expensive one here, but it’s worth it.  A shirtdress with drama.

This dress from Vero Moda Curve has one of the prettiest floral prints I’ve ever seen.  Since I know plus-size readers likely experience disappointment when items don’t come in their size range, I must express my sadness that this fine frock only comes in sizes 12-24.  (It’s selling out quickly in the larger sizes.)

I have a shirt dress I bought at Old Navy in high school (I’m 33 now) that is still going strong. I bought it kind of big then so it still fits now. Every time I wear it I get so many complements. The shirt dress is the most comfortable dress ever and will always look classic.

Honest question – can you all wear things with sleeves without sweating profusely? Even with the AC in the office and even with sleeveless I feel too hot with sleeves.

In the summer, I think it just depends on how breathable the fabric is and whether I’m going to be moving around a lot the day I wear the item. Deodorant is definitely key for helping to keep things fresh.

The Beauty Edit: Neck Creams

Nora Ephron was right: I feel bad about my neck. As I move through my forties, the creases have turned into chasms. The skin sags like a pair of sweatpants with aging elastic. It’s not great. But it’s just a natural part of getting older. Over the past year, it feels like I’ve tried every […]
