Saw It On Social: The Stanley Adventure Quencher

Jun 1, 2022

If you spend any time on Instagram, you have seen the Stanley Adventure Quencher — a 40 oz., insulated travel tumbler with a handle and straw.  And maybe you’ve heard the story about how a few Mom-influencers not only convinced the manufacturer to bring back the discontinued tumbler, but also to let them choose the colors it came in.

The Stanley Tumbler is the definition of hype.  It seemed impossible that it could live up to all the accolades.  So after months of thinking, “Nah, it can’t be that good.”  I finally ordered one.

Yes, it’s that good.

So I bought another one.

Then, they sold out.  But all the colors are back in stock today, so I’m snapping up two more.  Here’s why.

First, the size.  I don’t have to take a break to refill my water glass during the work day.  Therefore, I don’t drink one glass, get distracted, and then forget to drink more water.  I have five, 8 oz glasses in front of me every time I fill the tumbler.

I wasn’t getting enough water in the early days of my pregnancy because I would forget to take water breaks.  Now, I have no issue staying hydrated.

Second, I like water a few degrees below lukewarm, not ice cold.  Six ice cubes gives me perfect temperature water all day.  You can adjust to your taste.

Third, the straw.  It’s easier to drink a lot of liquid quickly through a straw.  So you can drain all 40oz and be genuinely surprised to be half way done with your day’s water consumption.

Lastly, it travels well if you own a car because it fits in a standard-size car cup holder.

When I say this tumbler has made it easier to get enough water and improved my health, I’m not joking.  I struggled with dehydration in early pregnancy.  I don’t now, and that’s because of the tumbler.

The tumbler does have two down sides, however.  One, it spills.  Unlike my Zojirushi water bottle, which I can just toss in my bag, the Stanley must be kept upright.

Second, cleaning the straw isn’t fantastic.  I bought a few extra from the website, and I clean them once a week.  And I appreciate that the website stocks replacement lids and straws because it’s so easy to lose or damage one.

If you want the best color selection, the colors restock at 9:00AM PT today (Noon ET).  They will sell out quickly.  So I wouldn’t hesitate.

I love mine.  I may buy them as holiday gifts for people.

I’m in the minority on this one but I do not like this cup at all! I find it too bulky and don’t care for the handle. My go to is the Owala water bottle. Has a straw inside the bottle and a wide mouth opening. Super easy to clean. Lid locks for no spills. I think it only goes up to a 32 oz. size but is about 10 bucks less than the Stanley.

Same here! Also it does not work with a stroller which was frustrating because I had trouble staying hydrated postpartum. I did buy the little straw stoppers from Quick Cup Fix to address the spilling issue and that helped with cold beverages.

    • Jenn S. says:

+1 for Owala here. I’ve tried so many damn bottles (including the Camelbak Eddy and half a dozen Contigo varieties with and without straws) over here, but I love the versatility of straw-or-not on the Owala, and how easy it is to clean. I definitely drink more when I have a straw. I don’t think the 32oz will fit in a standard car cupholder, unfortunately, but a smaller size will. I’m also a Zojirushi fan – they handle hot or cold beautifully, are durable AF, leak-free, and gorgeous.

But while I’m team #nohandle, I appreciate why that’s a good feature for a lot of people!

I am team Yeti Rambler 30oz (dishwasher safe) with either the magslider or “rambler tumbler straw lid” (size large). I detest handles and I love that it fits in the dishwasher and the straw is pretty wide so easy to clean in the dishwasher and quickly suck down fluids. And it keeps things ice cold.

    • Lindsey says:

Another mom here voting for the 30 oz Yeti rambler. It’s gotten me through multiple pregnancies and postpartums, and still looks brand new. Fits in the stroller and car cup holders. It’s the best. I’m switching from the straw back to the slider lid, though…my lips are suddenly starting to collapse at age 37 and I don’t need to help that process.

It’s 2pm EST and they are sold out of every color. Guess I’ll have to be faster next time.

REI and Dick’s Sporting Goods have them in stock more regularly than Stanley. I got two from Dick’s last week and have seen them in stock there more often.

The handle+straw combo is a game changer. I also found that having the handle toward my non-dominant hand lets me keep doing things (I’m a chronic multi-tasker).

I use the Bubba Envy mugs. I have a 32oz and a 48 oz and usually fill them up twice a day. Here’s a google search: https://www.google.com/search?q=bubba+mug+with+handle+envy&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjukfK2gY34AhUun3IEHXtgA58Q2-cCegQIABAA&oq=bubba+mug+with+handle+envy&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQAzoECAAQGFDGB1jiDmDFEGgAcAB4AIABL4gB7wGSAQE2mAEAoAEBqgELZ3dzLXdpei1pbWfAAQE&sclient=img&ei=JMGXYu7vE66-ytMP-8CN-Ak&bih=1171&biw=2400&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS957US959#imgrc=76gcqAhIa1CRGM

I like the clear ones, but it doesn’t look like they’re as widely available as they used to be.

Years ago I tried a walmart version of this and it was too bulky to carry around to meetings, so I never used it.

I use a 20 oz yeti rambler with the slide for moving from meeting to meeting, I pass by a bunch of water bottle refill stations so it’s easy for me to refill.

  6. Crystal says:

I like the Contigo 24 oz. insulated tumbler — stainless steel, 3 colors, fits in a car beverage holder, breaks apart for easier cleaning, and nearly leak-proof (which was a big factor for me) as the straw has an inner valve. I’ve had mine for a couple years and use it consistently for cold water and cold brew coffee. It’s currently sold out at Target but you can find it on Amazon and at other locations:

Sorta off-topic, but I got a 20oz Miir flip traveler (shout out to Explorer Cold Brew, thanks for the nice freebie) and it is NICE. Feels expensive, absolutely no leaks, and for me 20oz is the right size for tossing in bags. Miir is also pretty charity-minded which is always appreciated.

While I’m at home, my 40oz Hydro Flask is always with me. It’s probably comparable to the Stanley one, and being able to fit in a cup holder for a road trip would be nice… so thank you for the recommendation!

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
