The Beauty Range: The Affordable Makeup Brushes You Need

Mar 25, 2022

Makeup brushes come in three flavors: drugstore, beauty counter, and you want how much money for that?!  So when you find a well-made, drugstore-priced brush, you tell people.  All the people.

I found this Sonia Kashuk brush set because I needed a foundation brush while traveling in a city that has no mall, no department stores, and Target is basically the only place to buy beauty products.

The brushes are high-quality, with soft nylon fibers and sturdy handles.  I’ve washed mine several times without any measurable bristle loss.  And on a scale of 1-to-10, they’re a solid 8.5, as good as Sigma brushes for much much less.  I mean the whole set is $40.

Don’t need all these brushes?  You can buy any brush separately.  I highly recommend the flat-top concealer brush.

Hey Abra, a few years ago you recommended a Sonia Kashuk for Target hairbrush that I bought, and it was AMAZING! Like a Mason Pearson dupe for 9.99. I bought several at the time and have gone through them, but I’m on my last one. Sadly, I can’t find anymore. Do you have any suggestions for something similar? It’s been the best brush ever!

Question (this isn’t meant to come off as confrontational – I’m learning and trying to determine what’s best 🙂 – you mentioned using the beauty blender yesterday, but today you suggest a foundation brush – do you have a preference or one that works better? Trying to teach myself to apply makeup after WFH.

With the heavier foundation, I prefer to stipple the foundation on with a blender. When I wear lighter foundation, which I still do on days when a full face feels like too much, I like a brush. But this is a great foundation brush, and the concealer brush is money.

Great recommendation, thank you. Love that the brushes are available individually.

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
