Coat Week: The Best Fall Coats

Sep 20, 2021

This weekend, it rained and temperatures plummeted.  I am forced to admit that summer is coming to an end.  I.am.not.ready.  But while I am mentally unprepared for the cooler weather, I am ready for coat season.  I love a good coat.  Here are several that caught my eye.

Coats Over $400

Barbour Inveraray Wool Coat $490

Reiss Mandie Mid Length Coat $620

Soia Kyo Belted Waist Coat ($695)

Coats Between $200 and $400

Calvin Klein Contrast Trim Coat ($280)

Sam Edelman Notched Collar Coat ($240)

J.Crew Villa Stadium Cloth Coat ($365, petite/tall/plus)

Coats Under-$200

Bernardo Wool Coat with Removal Moto Insert ($99)

Calvin Klein Double Breasted Coat ($130)

Express Black and White Wedge Coat ($198)

Rachel Roy Windowpane Coat ($99)

Even though I live in Texas where summers are brutal and winters are manageable, I’m not ready for winter at all. I just want days where the sun shines for more hours and the highs are below 90 and the lows are above 50 so we can spend some time outside.
Coats look pretty, but I hate wearing all the winter garb. I want to live in summer clothes forever.

Thank you for this post. I think there’s nothing better than a nice wool coat. After several A/W seasons where I feel like I’ve been inundated with nothing but puffer coats and jackets I appreciate seeing some wool coats for a change.

After seeing this post, I told my husband this morning that I wish we lived somewhere where one has multiple coats and wears them every day because it is cold enough that even the door to car sprint requires one. He asked if we could move to FL, so, eh, compromise. We live in the DC burbs and between our lifestyle and the temperature, I find it not really cold enough here for me to consistently wear a coat more than a few days a year (unlike when I lived in the midwest before I met him); here I go garage to garage and generally run very warm. In the last five years I have worn my wool coat once and that was to the Kennedy Center. I am either outside with kiddo wearing my puffer or soft shell or ducking in and out of cars and buildings where just a down vest will do. But you ladies in cooler climates should definitely wear all of these beautiful coats!

I love a good coat! Winter coats are always my favorite part of presidential inauguration fashion. This is probably because, as others have said, I don’t live in a place where I need many coats.
I think jcrew used to have a wool coat with a removable lining for colder/less cold environments. Are there still coats out there like this? Would love to see some options that can be med/light for the South but made warmer for when I visit colder places.

  5. Carrie says:

Great roundup! Any suggestions on how cold the JCrew coats can handle? Michigan winters get cold and windy

The Find: Bright and Striped

For the past few years, the wardrobes of many influencers have tilted toward the beige and boring.  I’m all for a good basic, but staple pieces can only take you so far.  Sometimes, you need to wear something that has a little something extra, and this sale-priced tee certainly does.
