One Short Read. Why following anti-racism accounts run by white creators may miss them point.

One Long Read. 16 Things I Want My Daughter to Know Before She Leaves for College.

Recently, I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about what comes after Capitol Hill Style.  Next week, is my 13th year of blogging, and while I still love it, the time that once existed for it isn’t there like it used to be.  Some of this is a late-30s loss in energy, some of this is just running another business as a solo-practitioner, as opposed to having a 9-to-6.

One of the things I love about this site is the community that built up around it.  We’ve taken that community into a thriving Facebook group.  And we’ve used the Facebook group to launch two newsletters — a free daily newsletter similar to a mini-Edition that you can find on Instagram and Substack, and a paid newsletter ($6 per month) that comes out twice per week, discussing work on Wednesday and life on Sunday.

I’m really proud of all we’ve been able to create at Capitol Hill Style.  My hope is that I’ll be able to train someone to help out with it so I can keep it going a few more years, but I’m grateful to have created a community for women in their 30s and 40s that will survive after it.

This is the only blog I read, and have been reading for years. Thanks for creating content all these years that is so useful, pertinent, not hypey and real.

    • Holly says:

+1 Couldn’t have said it better. I so value our CHS community. Thank you for creating and nurturing a positive space for us all these years.

  2. Mary says:

Every week I find myself so delighted to turn to Capitol Hill Style with a cup of tea in hand – your posts never disappoint, whether it’s a thoughtful article or amazing blouse. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us.

  3. Sarah says:

This is the only blog I read consistently, and I also subscribe to both of your newsletters. I read every single day without fail. However, from the things you’ve said in the last year, I wondered if you’re hitting the end (even as I selfishly hope you are not). When you’re at the end, you’re at the end. Something that fit into your life in your 20s and 30s may not fit in your 40s, and that’s okay. Thank you for everything you have shared and continue to share with us! We are along for the ride for as far as it goes.

  4. s-p-c says:

Echoing these thoughts – I read only this blog and one other, and love your voice and insights. I hope we can continue to keep the community connected, no matter what’s ahead.

  5. Nadine says:

I love this space, but you’ve also created something really wonderful with Break Things, and I’m happy to follow you there.

  6. Sheryl says:

Echoing these sentiments. Yours is the only blog I regularly follow, and I appreciate your writing, style and priorities. I’m grateful to have had you for these last many years. I closed my Facebook account but subscribe to your newsletter and am hoping to have you around for a long time still, in one way or another.

  7. michelle says:

Like others have said, yours is the only blog I read regularly.

The main things I love your blog for the articles you share and your honest unsponsored reviews of products. The newsletters include reading links, but please consider continuing reviews in some format since a lot of us value and trust your opinion.

  8. N. says:

I’d be sad to see you go but you always have to put yourself first. If you’re feeling burned out, maybe consider just one post a day?

  9. Annie says:

Ditto to the other comments. Your approach and voice are why this is only blog I check daily. Hopeful you’ll find the right balance for your life.

  10. Libbi V says:

Oh Abra, I know nothing lasts forever, but if CHS shuttered… I would be devastated. This is one of the first blogs I started following religiously, it has been such a beacon of style and practicality. But at the same time, I recognize you are in a much different season of life than you were 13 years ago. I’m in the Thirty-ish FB group, I love reading your posts and newsletters, and love the community you’ve built. Like I’ve commented before, you feel like an old friend with the best advice.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
