Five Beauty Products That Stood the Test of Time

Jul 6, 2021

Some influencers can’t wait to try the hot, new beauty product, but that’s not me.  When I find something that works, I keep using it until I try something better, and for several of the products on my shelf, I’ve never found anything better.  I may try to replace them, but the luster of new love fades, and I wind up right back where I started.  Here are the favorites.

Do you need toner?  If you have oily or combination skin, you would likely benefit from daily exfoliation.  I fell in love with Clinique’s Clarifying Lotion in 7th grade, and I’ve never found anything that I like better.

One quick swipe removes oil, dead skin, dirt, makeup and soap residue from my skin.  I use it after my evening face cleanse, and it gives you that fresh, clean feeling without over-drying the skin.

There are four strengths — sensitive, 2, 3, and 4.  I use 2 in the winter and 3 in the summer.  But if you’re new to the product, 2 is a good place to start for most skin types.

Aussie’s 3-Minute Miracle Conditioner is my first choice for deep conditioning on a budget.  Nothing works as well for under-$10 (or $25 for that matter).  I just run a little bit through my ends and my hair is smoother and softer.  It is the best thing for heat damaged hair because you can use a little bit every day without weighing down your locks.

I have tried many body lotions, but I always end up right back here with Kiehl’s Creme de Corps.  I buy the 34oz bottle, which lasts me about 9-months.  Consider it the Big Gulp for thirsty skin.

CdC isn’t greasy.  It’s unscented.  It moisturizes all day, so you can avoid that flaky feeling in the evenings.  And it dries quickly, so I don’t have to worry about it causing my clothing to stick to my body like fly paper.  It’s the good stuff.

Ole Henriksen’s Invigorating Night Transformation Gel is my ride-or-die serum.  It keeps wrinkles at bay, smooths rough texture, and evens skin tone.  I go to bed with only this and eye cream on my face 6-out-0f-7 nights per week.  There was a concern they might discontinue it earlier this summer, so I bought six bottles and put them in my fridge.  It is that important to me.

I bought this Tony Moly Sleeping Pack eight (?) years ago because I thought the packaging was cute, and I am still buying it now.  On the 7th night of the week, I slather this on, drink a giant glass of water, and wake up with the most supple, youthful skin.  It’s a miracle product.

I carry it when I travel for nights when I had too much for or not enough fun.  I put it on my hands when they need some moisture.  And it has never failed me.

100% agree on the Creme de Corps. It’s the only lotion I’ve found that keeps my dry, tired skin moist during the cold, winter months. Last winter I finally tried the trick of using it immediately after stepping out of the shower and it was even more amazing.

During the summer, I’m able to use Aveeno lotion 4ish days a week and saving my Creme for 1/2 days to help make the bottle last. But it’s one of my go to ride of die products.

+1 I love it too. But I disagree about it being unscented. It has a light nutty/vanilla scent to me.

Now that you say that, I agree. I guess I think of it as unscented because it doesn’t have a strong fragrance, floral or otherwise, like so many lotions.

I think I bought that Tony Moly sleeping mask from you 8 years ago after you posted it – LOVE that stuff!!!

I love the Tony Moly sleeping pack! I bought it years ago when you recommended, and it’s been a staple in my skincare routine ever since! I’m buying the Ole Henrikson now 🙂

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
