Long Read. Where are we now?  A story of the post pandemic.

Guasha is a technique that involves scraping a stone tool over your face to improve circulation. I bought one of the tools months ago, but I didn’t know how to use it until I found this amazing TikTok.

My face feels less puffy after using the tool.  And if I bookend it with my icy facial roller, I might even forget that I’ve eaten nothing but salt and caffeinated beverages for weeks.

An important comment to add, sent in by a reader:

Hi Belle and other readers – in light of the recent anti-Asian hate incidents, I want to point out that guasha is a traditional Chinese medicine/therapy and should be given credit where it’s due. It’s not a brand new influencer skincare trend – in my own Chinese family we’ve been doing guasha for at least the last century. It’s a family tradition that the kids of the family will guasha the backs of their elders (so I did it for my mom, dad, aunt, and grandma; my younger sister did it for me if I couldn’t reach a spot on my back).

In my own experience, guasha on your back may or may not actually work in “expelling toxins and other harmful things in the body,” but it does provide you a way to give a deeper massage at home.

Wow, that NYT piece was really moving. I know I’ve changed throughout the past year, but I also feel that I won’t fully realize or be aware of how much until we’re on the other side of this (or after more therapy).

I can’t even bring myself to read that NYT piece. Where I live the pandemic is at the worst it’s even been right now. I can’t look ahead to the future while also keeping my head down and crossing my fingers that all my people survive the next few weeks.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
