Long Read. She wrote Like Water for Elephants, but her work freeing a man from jail cost her nearly everything.

Kyle does most of the cooking these days, so when I cook, I want to step it up.  This remake of Hillstone’s beloved Thai Steak Salad with noodles is next on my list.

It’s fresh and bright and perfect for spring/summer.  It’s great for a dressed up backyard dinner with friends or a Friday night date-at-home meal.  Just remember, the steak needs to marinade for six hours, so make that part the night before.

Maybe I’ll serve it on my fun new outdoor dishes.  (I’m smitten with the orange print.)

Is crying on 80% of your one on one calls not the way to tell your boss you’re having mental health problems? Or with your mentor? Or HR? Whoops!!

Hi, Belle – I’ve accessed the site on mobile and through two different computers today after being on vacation last week and cannot load posts beyond the first four. Thought you should know.

    • Belle says:

Someone else mentioned this last week. It’s working fine for me in safari and Chrome. Let me see if I can sort it out.

      • Anna C says:

I was coming here to say the same thing – I can’t get it to work in Chrome or Firefox on my laptop, or in Chrome on my phone.

  3. Allison says:

Great equal pay day article. When speaking to why we aren’t making enough progress, “That’s because if changing women were the answer, this battle would be over.” Yes! So tired of lean in, lean out, lady boss, cancel lady boss, be confident, blah blah blah.

That LongRead article was fascinating. So hard to parse out how much of her work trying to free that man led to her problems, and how many of her problems led her to try to free that man.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
