I think I am on my fifth dotted blouse.  I wear them under cardigans and blazers.  I wear them with colored trousers and simple pencil skirts.  Here are a few options in different price points that are perfect for your professional (or Zoom) wardrobe.

How would you style a shirt like the top one, where it’s sheer? Do you do a nude or black cami underneath?

    • Belle says:

      Black cami.

    • Abbie says:

Which raises another question–where do people like to get camis from? I liked a few I found at Nordstrom Rack but haven’t seen those again. Any suggestions?

      • Cait says:

I’ve switched from spaghetti strap camisoles to tank style with 1 inch straps. Skinny straps inevitably get tangled in my bra straps or show multiple straps beneath sheer tops like these. One slightly thicker strap is a cleaner look to me.
My current faves are shapewear tanks that I’ve sized up in. I like that they’re made not to ride up or show lines and that clothing doesn’t catch on the fabric. If you size up you’ll still get those benefits without the sausage casing feeling. Mine are Spanx, but it seems like most brands have something comparable.

      • F says:

In the colder months I use Uniqlo heattech tanks for layering like this. Agree with Cait, tank style works better than spaghetti strap, especially under sheer. For warmer months I just use a basic Gap cotton tank. Uniqlo makes a cooling line. The fabric is nice and lightweight but the one I ordered I found the neckline too low.

      • Jess says:

Nordstrom makes a nice cami under the Halogen brand name. I wear them every day.

    • Jennifer says:

Banana Republic now has a line of True Hues undergarments. No black, but nude in an extended line of colors. I prefer nude bras and/or camis as they disappear under sheerer tops.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
