Long Read. A year spent following Mormon Mommy Bloggers.

A New Year is almost upon us, so it’s a good time to start a new project.

This Sunday, my new subscription newsletter The Sunday Best launches on Substack.  Every week, we will discuss ways you can make the most of the week ahead.  Subscriptions are $6 per month or $66 per year.  I would be honored if you would join us.

There is also a limited time “Founding Member” status for $100.  Founding Members will be put on a special list to receive email invites to virtual and in person events first and other perks when we launch Thirtyish merchandise later this spring.

This week, to celebrate the New Year, we’re talking about small steps you can take to get your finances in order.  Financial health is a journey, so please share your best hacks and advice in the comments.  Who knows, your thoughts might make it into this week’s newsletter.

Thank you for supporting Capitol Hill Style and Thirtyish.  In a tumultuous and sad year, these projects kept my spirits up.

xo, Abra

The mommy bloggers article might give me nightmares, QAnon, 5G, COVID denial, LIZARD PEOPLE! That’s a new one.

I was just thinking about financial cleanup for 2021, looking forward to the newsletter!

Paula Pant of Afford Anything has a great podcast episode and e-book called “One Tweak a Week” – idea is that there are a variety of small steps to financial betterment that can be done in about an hour/week over the course of a year. She’s done a version of this in January for the last few years, though I’m not sure if she’s doing it again in 2021. Highly recommend the whole series but I found the following particularly helpful:

    – Check your credit report at all three bureaus and set calendar reminders to check again in the coming years (an obvious one but I, alarmingly, was not in the habit of doing this on a routine, annual basis)

    – Write your “why” on the reason(s) motivating the improvement of your financial life

    -Change to biweekly mortgage payments

-Create a plan for charitable giving

-Make a list of annual expenses

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
