Monday Outfit: A Casual Sweaterdress Look

Dec 28, 2020

Preparing to work Saturdays is the toughest part of working the legislative session.  Waking up on Saturday, I have to know what you’re going to wear or else I’ll wind up staring at a closet full of nothing-to-wear.  Because, at the end of the week, my mind is just a blank.  But this stylish sweater dress and sneaker look might be a good option.

Given the casualness of this look, I’m surprised how stylish it is.  It’s fun for casual Friday, work from home, or maybe a relaxed date night in.  Here’s how to recreate it.

Coat // I featured this oatmeal cocoon coat from Madewell before, but I love the sleekness of it.  If you already have a black coat and you’re looking for another option, try oatmeal.  It’s a soft neutral that hides dirt better than ivory.  I also like this funnel-neck coat from Marks and Spencer and this Calvin Klein toggle wrap coat.

Dress // I adore this cashmere Naadam Cable Knit sweater dress.  The variations in cable give it a unique look.  But I’m on the hunt for something a bit more affordable, so I like this dress from Skinnygirl.  Plus-size?  Try this Eloquii sweaterdress.

Not feeling the dress?  Try a pair of ecru jeans and a cable sweater.

Shoes // For a neutral sneaker with a hint of navy, this Veja SDU low top is a nice option.  It’s sporty but also feminine.

Clutch // If you’re looking for a post-holiday gift for yourself, this Cuyana convertible clutch turns into slim crossbody.  The card organizer, internal compartments, and chain clips are great for staying organized.  It’s a true classic.  Need a cheaper option?  Try this chain bag from Mark and Graham.

Accessories // I recommend wearing your hair in a high ponytail for this look.  It keeps up that relaxed, sporty feel.  Add a bit of texturizing spray and use a teasing brush for maximum fullness.

Wearing your hair up, also lets the oversize hoop earrings from Nest take center stage.  Even if you don’t wear big earrings, large hoops look good on almost everyone, just keep them on the thin side.

To complete the look, I pulled this Gucci lipstick in rose-beige.  If you’re looking for a gift for a friend, these Gucci lipsticks have rich pigments and are comfortable to wear.  Their a little bit of luxury to brighten your day.  And finish it off with a white nail polish to brighten your tips.

I like to wear sweater dresses with leggings to keep myself warm. Is that hopelessly un-stylish? (I mean, I don’t leave the house much these days, so it probably doesn’t matter….).

  2. Colleen says:

I love this look! Would bare legs look too odd when it’s cold, though?

    • Belle says:

I wear bare legs in the cold a lot this winter. I’m just not that concerned about it in 2020. And as long as I apply lotion, my pale legs don’t bother me.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
