A pair of simple ankle boots is the perfect pair of shoes for fall. The simpler the boots the more versatile they are. Here are a few pairs that caught my eye.

Love the colors – they look silky!

Has anyone found any cognac ankle boots, not suede, and without an enormous heel? They’ve been my unicorn this season.

I have these from last year and like them. The leather scratches pretty easily though, so I’d steer clear if a slightly worn-in patina isn’t your look.

Those are gorgeous and for a great price! Thanks!

Have you looked at the nisolo Lana ankle boot? I’ve been thinking about ordering it for a while, but haven’t yet. Also, I would search for blondo. They have a couple bootie styles that come in leather instead of suede.

Dansko looks like they have 1 or 2 pairs in a cognac leather this season. Most comfortable booties I own (I have a couple of pairs from the last 5 years and they are all I wear in the winter).

I have the version of these from 4 years ago, and they are still beautiful and super comfortable. I waterproof them and they’ve survived snow & salt and still have a great sole:

Wow! Four years? What did you use to waterproof? Do you re-apply before each winter? I’m so impressed.

I have these, and they are the most comfortable and versatile boots I own. They have a super supportive footbed, just like Chaco sandals.

Thanks to all the ladies who chimed in with suggestions for cognac boots! I wanted to share that Nordstrom rack is having a flash sale on Frye boots. I’ve always shied away from the price of Frye boots, but these are up to 60% off. I scooped these up:

I purchased the SO Barb Ankle Boot in taupe, size 8.5 wide. At $20 (total cost delivered was $30.00), they are a great deal. I added a Dr. Scholl’s gel insole, which I had plenty of room for and was needed since the only flaw is the lack of padding in the footbed. Otherwise, the color is great, the sole is flexible, the heel is reasonable, and the fit is comfortable. I would highly recommend them, especially for people who need a wide.
