Monday Outfit: Simple in Stripes

Aug 3, 2020

Simplicity.  Some mornings you just need to reach into your closet and pull out an outfit that doesn’t require thought.  Those pants. That top.  Those shoes.  That piece of jewelry.  Done.  Outfits on auto-pilot.  This striped combination is just that.

This outfit, that I spotted in an ad for Tuckernuck, is the epitome of easy chic.  The pieces are updated — a cream culotte, instead of white skinny jeans and a pale blue stripe instead of a basic navy — and modern for a little something extra.  Wear it for work from home, for casual Friday, or for an easy plane look (if we ever start flying again).

Top // I chose this Anna Top because the softer teal-blue felt really fresh.  Want a similar look for less?  Try this Talbot’s top.  This boatneck top from COS comes in a similar color with a boxier, more relaxed fit.

Prefer the classic navy stripe?  Boden is always my go to.  Several styles and colors, runs up to size 22.

Jeans // If you’re looking for a new style of jean to spice up your wardrobe, wider leg, ankle-length jeans are everywhere this year.  Even with my pear shape, I’ve found that if I go for a higher-waist style, the look is still flattering and modern.

These H&M culottes are an affordable way to indulge in a trend without breaking the bank.  Mango also makes a similar style in a slightly deeper cream.  Looking for white?  This BR pair is my absolute favorite.

Shoes // Madewell has the best sandals right now.  Stylish, simple, great for now or next summer.  These Heidi slingback sandals are not to be missed.

Bag // My Banana Republic crossbody has become my go-to bag.  It’s just roomy enough to hold essentials.  The details and hardware are incredibly stylish.  And wearing it crossbody keeps me from setting it down when I’m running errands, which is essential during a pandemic.

Accessories // A tortoise cat-eye sunglasses channel that Old Hollywood vibe in a totally approachable way.  These Ted Baker’s are sophisticated and stylish.  They’re also <$60.  For something even more affordable, try this Kenneth Cole pair.

A simple stack bangle adds a lot of shine and spirit to your outfit.  This pair from Soft Surroundings has an earthy vibe to it with a wavy shape and brushed-gold style.  They look great with a relaxed outfit like this or with a dressier outfit.

Looking for a unique piece of jewelry?  A lot of bloggers are sharing these BuDhaGirl Prayer Bangles.  They’re made of a gold filled polycarbonate tubing so they don’t jingle, and they can be worn anywhere.  They’re very popular, and an interesting way to add a lot of attitude and visual interest.
