The Beauty Range: Solutions for Chafing

Jul 24, 2020

Chafing.  It’s not something that women like to talk about, but it’s real, and it’s painful.  Here are some products that can help prevent and soothe chafed skin (wherever it might hide).  Summer heat, be gone, you have no power here!

For Blistered Feet

I bought Pre-Heels Blister Prevention Spray from an Instagram ad three years ago, and it was a game changer.  New shoes?  Pre-Heels.  Wedding day have you in heels from 10:00AM to midnight?  Pre-Heels (just reapply halfway through).  Cruelty free and hypoallergenic.  One can should last for a while.

The Beloved, but Pricey, One

Megababe Thigh Rescue has a bit of a cult following.  Created by blogger Kate Sturino, the non-toxic stick sits on top of the skin to create a friction barrier that prevents chafing.  The product is also moisturizing with a combination of aloe and fruit oils.

The Drugstore Version

This Body Glide stick is the anti-chafe product that I use.  At <$8, it’s a good buy and doesn’t have petroleum or lanolin, which can irritate skin.  I use it under my sports bra because post-workout heat rash is no joke.

If You’re Looking for a Different Solution

I love Knix for period underwear, and their new Shortie Thigh Saver is great too.  This is the 4″ length.  It also comes in a 6″ length.  The 4″ option comes in five “nude” shades and black.  Sizes run up to 3XL

If you’d like something more affordable, I know the Jockey Skimmies shorts are very popular with the readership.  I have a pair and I like them, but the Knix are a little smoother and thinner on, which I find more comfortable.

Since it’s the pandemic, and we’re all learning a billion DIYs (not an exaggeration I think), making your own anti-chafing stick isn’t actually that difficult. It’s mostly ingredients like beeswax, coconut oil, corn starch, baking soda, essential oils (optional for scent) that you can pack into plastic deodorant packaging (<$1 each online). Highly recommend, and can honestly make a decent project to occupy older children.

Undersummers. Fun colors, not to hot and are a god send when pregnant or not

I’ve used Monistat Anti-Chafing Powder Gel for many summers. You do need to reapply, especially after sweating a bit, but when it dries the powder feel is quite the relief.

I second the Monistat chafing gel. It dries to a powder and is an absolute life saver when you’re experiencing chafing pain. I also recommend Thigh Society’s cooling slip shorts. I own three pair and they are wonderful. They don’t ride up or roll, which seems like an obvious requirement, but is hard to find. https://www.thighsociety.com/products/the-cooling-mid If you sign up for their email, you can get 10% off.

I love!!! the megababe chafing stick. I’ve tried every drug store variation and this is by far the best. It also lead me to discover their deodorant which is excellent, I am not a natural deodorant wearer otherwise but grabbed one for a trip and loved it, now I use it all the time. I like the rosy pits scent.

  5. DeNae says:

For your plus size readers, I highly recommend the Snag Tights Chub Rub shorts. They are much more comfortable for me than the Jockey’s in plus sizes, because they are actually proportioned differently.

  6. Jo says:

I use Megababe but I’m intrigued by Bandalettes. They look sexy and functional, where I always try to take off my Skimmies before my husband will see me in them.

  7. Tiffany says:

BodyGlide, yes! It’s also great for running (which is how I discovered it, now I use it all the time for all the things).

  8. Mary says:

Highly recommend Gold Bond’s Friction Defense as another drug store option! I’ve found it lasts longer on my skin than body glide and has more than 3x the amount of product as the standard body glide container (1.75oz vs .5oz) for about $6. I also like that product is about the size of most deodorants – covers more with each swipe than the smaller body glide.

  9. L says:

I’ve just used my deodorant on my inner thighs on really hot days, and it’s always worked great for me.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
