+ Long Read: A restauranteur tries to find her place in the new world.

Like many people trying to hold onto their sanity and strengthen their mental health during this crisis, meditation is on my mind.  I tried the Calm app some years ago, and it helped.  But meditation is a practice, and to bring about its benefits, you need to find the method that’s right for you.

Enter, Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics by Ten Percent Happier.

Some days their free app and my acupressure mat are the only things keeping me on the right side of sane.

the explaining the pandemic video contains possibly the best coronavirus content I’ve seen since this thing began.

  2. Whitney says:

I love Dan Harris for intro to meditation because it appeals to the least woo-woo among us. Glad you found something that works for you!

  3. Sari says:

Love that Anthro dress- it’s ALREADY sold out!

  4. Cindi says:

I just ordered the acupressure mat. Really excited about that! Thanks for the recommendation – I didn’t know anything like that existed!

    • MOnica T says:

I picked up the acupressure mat on Abra’s recommendation and LOVE it. Switching from a Herman Miller ergonomic office chair to a barstool for the last 6 weeks has done a number on my back, neck and EVERYthing. You can use the mat and pillow in a million ways (it comes with instructions), it is a lifesaver!

    • Kim says:

I ordered the acupressure mat a few weeks ago, too, and it is shockingly helpful. I hate my open office, but desperately miss my ergonomic desk and that mat has helped relieve a LOT of tension and soreness.

  5. MOnica T says:

Definitely over video calls, for some reason it feels invasive at this stage, even though as a member of a multi-region team I always encouraged video calls when in the office to make everyone feel connected. But now, I am constantly being interrupted by a child, dogs, or whatever…I feel like it would be disruptive to have my video on in every meeting. I am paying attention, I swear! I’m also feeling like I can’t control what my face does and why subject others to that?!

  6. Lindsey says:

Peloton has pretty great meditations on the app. I like their app things (strength, yoga, meditation, running) almost as much as the cycling workouts!

  7. Kate says:

That video!!!! great Monday start off.

  8. Kim W says:

    Oh that video is hysterical

  9. Ellen Buckley says:

If you like the 10% Happier app, I recommend Dan’s book of the same name as well. He might be milking the whole skeptic thing at this point, but his story of discovering and entering the world of meditation was a good read, even for someone who has been meditating for years.

  10. K says:

The video calls! Luckily, I’m not on much, but the last tine I spent the whole tome distracted by a crease in my neck and how to fix the lighting so I don’t look like J have a massive double, triple chin. I’ve been meaning to write for advice on that.

My resting bitch face? Ugh, I think it’s not that much worse than other’s, but,… I wish my neutral didn’t include a frown! I sort of feel like I should be looking for exercises for that, but I know I won’t do them.

The Range: Eyelet Tops for Summer

Airy eyelet fabrics are one of my favorite spring/summer looks. White is, of course, the traditional fabric. But white is tough to wear when you have a toddler, so let’s go with navy this summer.
