Everyone seems to be baking bread right now.  From crusty sourdoughs to sweet rolls, we have finally given up on hating carbs.  (Thank, God.  That was exhausting.)  And with everyone getting into the bread business, I wanted to re-share my favorite bread recipe: Molly Yeh’s Scallion Pancake Challah.

It is delicious.  And while it looks very intimidating, it just takes a little bit of patience (and counter space) to get it right.

First tip, read the whole recipe, all the way through, before you start.  This is a good tip for any new recipe, but it’s especially important with this one.

Second, assemble all the ingredients cooking show style before your start rolling it out.  If you don’t, you will find flour and tiny specks of dough everywhere.

Third, make sure the dough loafs are at least 3″ wide when you flatten them.  If they’re not wide enough, it will be tough to pinch the tops together.  If they’re too wide, the bread over bakes and becomes flat.

Last, if you don’t the ingredients to make this Asian-inspired loaf, change it up.  I’ve used thinly sliced shallots, garlic, and red chili flake instead.  It works just as well and makes a pretty good grilled cheese sandwich.

    All the bread….

That’s one side effect of the quarantine hitting me- weight gain due to delicious bread. My last mega run to Costco and all the bread was gone. Every bit. Thankfully I had yeast at home and the bread has been delicious, but we’ve been eating a lot of bread the last few weeks and my waist is proof of it!!

I have very fond, colorful memories of tie-dying as a kid, and with the current tie dye trend and some free time, I might try my hand at it again! The kit we used is still around: the Jacquard Tie Dye Kit.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has gotten the tie-dye bug this spring! Before this started I bought a pack of Hanes men’s cotton undershirts and a tie-dye kit to play with, thinking I’d make a cute top for the beach and the pool. I don’t think those trips will be happening, but I can still give the tie dye a shot!

  3. Nadine says:

That ring light looks way better than the one I ordered online last week for WFH consultations. It’s taking a month for items to ship from Amazon right now, though, so I had to shop elsewhere.

  4. K says:

Has anyone used the PMD device (any of their models)? Is it really worth it? I have a Michael Todd brush and a Foreo-ish silicone cleaner so am hesitant to add something else.

  5. Rebecca says:

That poem/benediction in the opening line is making me feel everything. Thank you for sharing those words with us.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
