The Range: Field Jackets

Apr 1, 2020

I have a favorite jacket.  It’s the LL Bean Classic Utility Jacket (also in petite and plus).  I’ve been wearing it on all of my walks during this period of self-isolation.  So much so that I’m looking for a second utility jacket with a rougher look — bigger pockets, more slouch, a visible zipper.

Corner Office

James Perse Oversized Field Jacket ($475)

Cubicle Farm

Banana Republic Classic Utility Jacket ($129, also in petite)

Front Desk

Nvlt Cinch Waist Jacket ($72)

Plus-Size

Treasure & Bond Long Field Jacket ($65)

These are fantastic. Love a field jacket (especially the LL Bean one), largely because of you! If it’s okay, I’d like to add an unconventional option for any of your readers with long arms or a tighter budget – I bought this Old Navy jacket to give as a gift last year but ended up keeping it for myself: https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=448639002. It has the slouchy look you’re talking about but also has a tie so you can cinch the waist, which makes it surprisingly flattering. The pockets are unbelievable (compared to women’s jackets!), and the sleeves look great down or rolled up. It has a little bit of stretch, too, and it’s on sale now for about $40 – might be a good budget option to consider :).

Thanks for sharing this! It’s so easy to ignore the Men’s section, even though they have tons of great, slouchy styles for a fraction of the cost. I find myself stealing my husband’s clothes yet never think to gravitate outside of the Women’s section when shopping for myself.

I love this! I resisted jean and utility jackets for so long in the early-mid 2010s because I kept seeing the really fitted ones, and it seemed a little too precious. The more slouchy look is on trend for now.

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
