The trouble with super heroes is what to do between phone booths. — Ken Kesey

Defended. Tips for standing up to the office mansplainer.

Topped. This relaxed one-button blazer will give your work toppers a weekend break.

Chatted. For better dinner party discussion, assign a reading list.

Partied. This Eloquii plus-size dress and Rachel Roy halter neck are both perfect for holiday festivities.

Returned. How the Scrunchie made a comeback.

Gifted. Oprah’s gift list is out.  I grabbed this eco-friendly travel coffee cup.

Anxious. Is everyone else actually doing better than you (or does it just feel that way)?

Chic. Hello, Moto(jacket).

Catwalk’ed. How much fashion is too much fashion at work?

Bagged. This green crossbody is way too chic to be under-$100.

Purity. What exactly is clean beauty?

Discounted. Tory Burch is having a Rack event, and this gorgeous cashmere scarf is not to be missed.

Timed. Meet the five-hour workday, and the four day work week.

Dressed. Try this embellished cross-front top or dramatic one-shoulder sweater for holiday parties.

Moving On. Three women discuss what it’s like to give up on getting pregnant.

Handed. Pushing a stroller in the winter?  I’m told these muffs are life.

Shopped. A prominent blogger discusses what goes into a sponsored post.

Thanksgiving is so close.  It seems impossible, but there it is, just around the corner.

This meringue pumpkin pie form Martha Stewart seems like an interesting (but not too out there) take on a classic.  It also seems easy to make, but feels fancier.

I am thinking about spicing it up, literally, by scenting the meringue topping.  I found recipes for both a Vermont maple meringue and Maple vanilla meringue.

Anything on your recipe list for Thanksgiving?

I’m confused about the stroller muffs. What is the benefit of these over gloves or mittens?

    • Cait says:

Add it to the long, long list of items that are nice but not needed for having kids.

My guess is they are convenient, you can take your hands out to check a phone or do something?? One less thing to keep track of? IDK. Mom of two here and I don’t get it but to each their own.

    • Belle says:

Apparently over thin gloves they’re game changers. I’ve had three friends put them on gift lists that I asked for for Moms.

      • Sarah says:

There’s a similar product for bicycles called bar mitts. Same general idea. You don’t have to wear super heavy gloves, more freedom. It’s like a Utility Muff 🙂

  2. Sharon says:

The photo of the meringue pie made me say “whoa!” out loud in the best way.

  3. Jules says:

Oh wow that green crossbody is amazing! Unfortunately out of stock.

  4. Anon says:

I’m confused – for me, the link for the meringue pumpkin pie takes me to Nordstrom blazer.

  5. Naomi says:

I’m curious about all of your thoughts about dealing with the office mansplainer. Speak louder? Redirect back to your points? Sure – those are important. But how about calling the person out for interrupting? “Please don’t interrupt. I’m speaking.” I was dealing with some pretty obnoxious mansplaining yesterday, so I’m still seeing red and that might temper my comments, but isn’t it time we stop adjusting our own behavior and start insisting on basic manners from others?

    • Belle says:

I tend to turn straight toward them, soften my voice and say, “I haven’t interrupted you, please show me the same courtesy, and don’t interrupt me.” Usually…usually…they’re cowed by that.

  6. Monica T says:

Love the idea about a dinner party reading list, but truly I have friends who will read long form articles and friends who won’t. Another option would be a film, or exhibit to go see beforehand. It might also decrease the amount of people who want to come to my dinner party. So WIN-WIN!

  7. Chris says:

Can someone explain the quote of the day to me 🙂

    • Belle says:

Superman changed from Clark Kent into his Superman costume in phone booths. So basically, the hard part of saving the world is what to do in the in between times when you’re not saving the world and just living a regular life.

  8. Kelly says:

I for one would love a shorter workweek. There’s a million things to work out, but I’ve got my fingers crossed that this is coming.

And the Microsoft experiment in Japan has been SO widely reported, but I’ve yet to see an article that cites the number of hours worked by employees before/after which I’m seriously side-eying.

  9. Carrie says:

Just want to say I’ve been totally loving and appreciating your content lately!

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
