The Weekly Edit: In the Key of ‘E’

Apr 19, 2019

This week was a busy one.  Less than 10-Legislative Days remain in the session, and I am feeling the pressure.  My MacBook is apparently also feeling it because my ‘e’ key is on the fritz.  It engages less than a third of the time on the first try.  Of all the keys to be broken, it must be the most used letter in the English language.

I mean, I only typed 35 ‘es’ in the paragraph above, no big deal.  It isn’t like I type for a living.  12-hours per day.  And the fact that there is not an Apple Store within 300-miles of my current location means I will just have to relentlessly pound my crippled ‘e’ key until the damn thing makes the mark I’m looking for.

All of this was to say, that if you see any odd typos on the blog this week, I missed the ‘e’ and autocorrect did the rest.????????‍♀️

What do I do for a living?  I sit in the back corner of the Montana State Senate and look pensive.  At least, that’s what the photo on the front page of the local paper would lead you to believe.

When I shared the photo on my Instagram stories, several dozen of you wrote in to ask which blush I was using.  (Which was the highlight of my day.)  I use Benefit’s Dallas blush.  It’s a very neutral dusty rose that looks good on almost anyone.  It’s a great alternative for women who use bronzer as blush, specially when you use an angled brush to apply it.

If I want a bit more color, I use Dallas as a contour and put a single swipe of Bobbi Brown Pale Pink on the apples of my cheeks.  But it’s a bit too girly for work, so I save it for weekend.

Eating healthy while working 12-14 hour days, six days a week, in a town where every salad is loaded down with candied fruit and nuts has been a real challenge.  After I was sick for 35 straight days, I decided that the simplest way to work more fruits and vegetables into my diet was with juice.  And since the juice bar I went to last month puts sherbet — yes, sherbet — in their juice, I turned to Amazon for help.

Suja juices have replaced my morning tea and my afternoon snack break.  I drink their Lemon Love in the morning, since it’s similar to hot lemon water.  Then, one of their green juices in the afternoon.  It gives me a break in my day without sending me to the soda fountain.

Don’t get me wrong, RBG is a total badass, but Sandra Day was the First.  Hitha and I are going to read this book at the same time so I have someone to talk to about it.  And I’m so looking forward to diving into it once the Session is over.

I have more things I could share from this week, but I am genuinely exhausted from fighting with my ‘e’ key.  So I’ll see you again on Monday.  Have a Blessed Easter and a good weekend.

I wear Bobbi Brown Pale Pink to work every day ha! Love that blush.

The “a” key broke on my MacBook senior year of college. For your sanity, I would highly recommend ordering an Amazon Basics external keyboard. You can’t bring it to every meeting, but a keyboard at your desk is a lifesaver.

I was just going to suggest the same. Get a bluetooth or plug in keyboard! Best of luck powering through Abra.

I dropped a speck of yogurt on my college laptop right before going abroad junior year, and it went pretty wonky. About three different letters had issues, like doubling or sticking, but the worst was that the space bar stopped working. However, when I typed “p” I would get “p”+”space,” so I would copy the space and then as I was typing would CTRL+v for space. About a week into the semester I got a separate keyboard but couldn’t lug that around everywhere. Thankfully we got it fixed when I came home for winter break. Two years later I dropped a bottle of nail polish remover on the fixed keyboard and took it as a sign from the heavens that it was time for a new computer.

You’re not alone in suffering through missing or repeating letters. The WSJ had a sad and entertaining article on the issue recently: https://www.wsj.com/graphics/apple-still-hasnt-fixed-its-macbook-keyboard-problem/

  4. Jenn S. says:

Came to recommend a USB keyboard to help alleviate your woes – but see that someone else already did! Definitely worth it, and cheap-to-boot.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
