What a week.  We’re approaching a transmittal deadline (when bills from the House must pass to the Senate, and vice versa), and things in the Capitol are quite frenetic.  I’ve gotten in so many steps this week, my Apple Watch probably thinks that I’m cheating.    Here are the products that are keeping me sane as the world spins madly on.

I’ve talked about my love of Rothy’s pointed-toe flats before.  I just picked up a new pair, and I am still so in love with them, I find it difficult to believe.

I bought this Black Honeycomb pair because my one complaint about black points is the white trim on the heel.  With this shoe, the trim is a dark-cobalt, so it’s less noticeable.  I also like the slightly thicker material.

I have washed my black points in a mesh bag six times, and they are holding up very well.  So if you’re looking for a shoe that will look newer, longer, this is it.  I’m also thinking about buying this orchid pair because the vibrant color is just so gorgeous.

Elizabeth Holmes’s 15-minutes of infamy continue.  The ABC podcast covering her rise and fall at Theranos is a hit.  And now this Vanity Fair piece looks at Theranos’s last days and how, in the aftermath, instead of being contrite, Holmes is almost defiant.

It’s hard as a feminist not to hold the former Silicon Valley wunderkind to a higher standard than I would hold a male CEO, but listening to the podcast, I feel a sense of betrayal.  She embraced the role of female trailblazer, and her unethical conduct has undoubtedly hurt those who will follow.  Not to mention the damage it has done to the careers of former Theranos employees.

Last week, I went to see a new aesthetician about a micro needling treatment to minimize some of my acne scarring.  During our conversation, I confessed that after 24-years of acne, I was feeling demoralized about my skin.  And for the first time, a skincare professional said something to help break my shame, “Your skin produces more oil, it’s a skin type, not a failing.”

The flavors change every couple of weeks, and the selection is usually fairly diverse.  This week, I saw steak quesadillas, Thai beef lettuce wraps, chicken marsala and a pasta dish.   They cost under-$20 each and feed two people.  So I can buy one, spend 20-30 minutes cooking it, and have two meals.  It’s a nice option if you like to cook, and want to eat at home, but don’t want to buy $40 worth of groceries to make a single meal.
