The Edition: No. 76

The secret of your success is determined by your daily agenda. — John Maxwell

Clear. How to reset your brain to increase mental clarity in 10-minutes.

Sleek. This sculpted Alexis Adamor work dress is so incredibly chic.

Healed. What it’s like to have an illness that you can’t beat.

Fluffed. My new favorite powder brush is just $5 from Wet-n-Wild.

Gilt. Why does it feel like everyone has more money than you?

Wrapped. Added this $39 wrap dress in emerald and berry to my Amazon Shop.

Charred. Passion Burnout: The type of burnout we rarely talk about.

Layered. Wear this scalloped cami under this J.Crew cardi and distressed jeans for a chic weekend look.  Or switch out the jeans for lavender pants for the office.

Linked. The dos and don’ts of office romances, because it happens.

Banded. You can sleep in this $69 silk headband, or get 8 for $13.

Cut. The modern trap of turning hobbies into side-hustles.

Please excuse the camera flash, but today is my Mother’s birthday and this is the only picture she would probably consent to me posting.  Yes, it was a long time ago, in a land far far away, but in some ways it feels like yesterday.  A time when I thought my Mom was the kindest, prettiest, most fun lady on the planet.  Oh, wait, that was yesterday.

I aspire to be more like her in many ways.  And I fail at that daily.  Because no matter how many candles on her cake, she still looks better in a swimsuit than I do.  (Seriously, its maddening.  You take a woman on a nice vacation to Phoenix, and find out your Mom looks better lounging poolside than you do.)

Happy Birthday, Mom.

That article about parental financial help was really interesting. Looking at my own circle of friends, the ‘most successful’ peers ALL got there through family, one way or another.
The biggest mind-trip for me is looking at social media. I see all these accounts/’influencers’ who seem to have a never-ending supply of cash/vacations/clothes/make up etc. I know that they may get sent free things, but it does make me question my own life and own finances.

Like, I’ve always wondered what do they know that I don’t? Well, the answer may simply be family. I do wonder how this will affect future generations.

One of my favorite comments ever on this blog was from a reader who just wanted a job, not a passion, not a calling, a job. And while I have always had a career that was both, it was really refreshing to have someone say, “Look, I work for money. I recreate for joy. I don’t want to mix the two.”

Thought I’d report back on the Raspberry blazer from TJ Maxx that Abra featured last week (https://theworkedit.com/capitol/2019/02/08/the-edition-no-73.html). I’m wearing it today and it’s great! Nice bold color, good stretch, true to size. Good find, but it’s dangerous to know that TJ Maxx has an online presence…

    • Jessica says:

I also bought that blazer thanks to Abra and am loving it. It’s a really unique color for a blazer and I feel powerful in it. Plus, great price for Theory quality.

  3. Abbie says:

The article about monetizing hobbies is a great read. Sometimes I’ve felt like a sell-out for choosing a career that I knew would bring financial security and because I like reading and writing (but not based on some other passion). But I also recognize that I enjoy what I do at work most days, and then I go home and bake, rock climb, or take a bath (my number 1 hobby). And I think that’s pretty damn great. It always seems so difficult to accept that my different choice from many friends is just that: different. Not wrong.

    • GF says:

Thanks for this comment, Abbie. Accepting that people just make “different” choices is so important. I often feel alienated from a few of my friends, who def are more “judgey” than ideal about different choices…

  4. Rachel says:

+1 on the Lark & Ro wrap dress! I also have a couple and they look great and hold up really well. Great pick!

  5. Anne says:

I do all my Amazon shopping from my iphone app – is there a way to shop your store from there to support?

  6. Cheryl says:

Can you accept that you look so much like your lovely mother? She did great work if you value a number of her values as worth of emulation.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
