New Arrivals: J.Crew Spring 2019

Feb 7, 2019

For several years, I would not wear J.Crew.  The tail end of the Jenna Lyons years were marked by over-the-top styling and poor quality, and I just wasn’t having it.  But the brand has bounced back a bit over the past 12-months.

Not every piece is a must-have, but there are a lot more diamonds than there is rough.  And now they have plus-sizes in addition to some petites and tall pieces.  Here are my picks from their 2019 early-Spring new arrivals.

Textured Lady Cardigan ($80)

Harper East Tote ($228)

Hammered Satin Top ($79)

Knit Sheath Dress ($88)

Point Sur Ruffle Top ($69)

Scalloped Trimmed Pullover ($89)

When I walked in to a J Crew store a few years ago and the whole place was giant ruffled one-shoulder tops I just didn’t even know what was happening. I get someone wanting ONE ruffled one-shoulder top, but seriously…the whole line? So I got buy purchasing second-hand button downs that were their older quality in normal silhouettes. But when I needed sweaters this winter, I was really pleased by their new options and all of them have been great! They is still a lot of shaking up going on but I hope this trend of quality basics with a little something extra continues.

Is the quality back up to par? I would hate to spend the money and then have it destroyed after 2 washes. Thanks!

  3. Jessica says:

My local store closed down! Not sure the cause but it’s a bummer now that they’re getting their moxie back

  4. Rachel C says:

I was a die hard JCrew lover during high school, college and my early career years. Then Jenna Lyons murdered it. (I know, it’s a somewhat unpopular thing to say out loud, but I believe it.) The store has finally started redeeming itself and becoming a go to again for me. And then my local store closed last week. Whomp whomp wha.

Meh, I think it’s a pretty common thing to say. I don’t know if anyone outside fashionista circles who worship the ground she walks on and don’t buy J.Crew anyways would disagree with you.

  5. Susan says:

While I desperately want jcrew to survive, I have to be honest and say the quality isn’t what it used to be, still. I bought a turtleneck over the holiday, gentled washed it twice and it’s already holey and stretched out. Be careful.

  6. L says:

Agree completely. Jenna Lyons was the worse hint that ever happened to JCrew. I have bought more in the last six months from JCrew than the previous five years.

The Find: A Versatile Sweater Jacket

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
