Gift Guide: For the Homebody

Dec 17, 2018

Just two gift guides left this year.  So let’s pick some gifts for that friend or relative who prefers a night in to a night out.  Or anyone on your list who just needs a bit of hygge in their life this winter.

Throws make a great gift (especially for the tough to buy for recipient).  This weighted blanket (add the duvet cover above if you want) that can help you fall asleep faster.  Weighted blankets can also help reduce anxiety and stress.  This article can tell you more.

This Faux Gray Shadow Fox Throw ($92) is another good option.  I keep a faux-fur throw on my couch for cold nights.  I think my dogs love it even more than I do.  It’s cozy in a way that defies description.

Not into faux fur? Try this super soft Barefoot Dreams throw.

If you love a glass of white wine at the end of the day but won’t finish a whole bottle, this Menu Breather Carafe ($69) is for you.  The bottle aerates the wine, and the cooling stick in the middle chills it.  Also works for Rose wine.

Prefer red?  Menu also makes a red decanter with built-in aerator.  It’s also dishwasher safe.

A wooden bath tray is an affordable luxury item.  This one from Silver Woodworking ($40) is a great option. It has a groove for you tablet or phone, a wine glass holder, and is wide enough to fit almost any bathtub.

Love a movie night?  This HotPop Popcorn Popper ($17) takes your favorite popcorn and just a bit of oil to make the perfect popcorn.  It also collapses for easy storage.  Also, a great stocking stuffer for kids.

Like seasoned popcorn?  This gourmet popcorn kit, with kernels and seasoning, would be a nice accompaniment.

An electric kettle like this one from OXO Cordless Kettle ($80) is a great gift for friends, new homeowners, and grandmothers.  If you have a tea drinker on your list, this kettle is a lifesaver. Need a cheaper one?  This Bodum one has a very cool look to it.

This Leopard Print Sleep Mask ($50) is an adorable gift for the city-dweller in your life.  If it’s too bright in your bedroom, a sleep mask can help you get your zzzzzzs.  This silk one is also gentle on skin and won’t give you wrinkles.

Add in this $49 Squalane beauty kit from Sephora and you have a great little gift.

Ugg Annsley Moccasins ($99) are the most comfortable slippers, ever.  I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, they are a vacation for your feet.  Need a cheaper pair of shearling-lined slippers?  These $10 ones from Old Navy are a good substitute.

Looking for something a bit more chic?  These velvet mules with a pom detail are very Old Hollywood.   Anthropologie also has these glorious, splurge-y velvet moccasins with gorgeous embroidery.

omg ordering the gooseneck water kettle – it’s perfect! and I am adding the bath tub tray to my wish list…. great round-up!

  2. Sandy says:

The first link is for a duvet cover for a weighted blanket, not an actual weighted blanket. But if your recipient already had one, this cover looks super soft!

  3. Monica T says:

I totally need new slippers, but I have the hardest time finding ones that aren’t too warm the majority of the year. Those velvet moccasins…oh my. In my dreams I could afford / maintain / pull off house slippers like that, but aren’t they gorgeous.

Fwiw, I have the open-back Uggs scuffs and wear them all year in D.C. Think they’re surprisingly breathable. Also have put them in the washer (though not dryer). They came out amazingly well. Thought the bathtub tap was dispensing wine for a second. Wishful thinking. 😉

      • Chris says:

SAME! I thought for a second that it was the decanter mentioned above, and was like: Hmm… this is for a person who drinks a *generous* amount of wine.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
