Gift Guide: For the Career Woman

Dec 11, 2018

Gifts for professional women should fall into one of two categories: gifts that make life easier or gifts that bring a bit of luxury into daily life.  And perhaps, a few gifts that do both.

These sumptuous J.Crew leather gloves ($98, but look for a sale) are everything you want in a glove — cashmere-lined, buttery leather, and smartphone compatible.  Not enough?  There’s also monogrammable.

Not looking for leather?  These ruffle-trim Badgley Mischka gloves are a lot of fun.

If you spend most of your day looking at a screen, you need blue-light blocking glasses.  They reduce eye strain and protect your vision.  If you read on a Kindle or iPad before bed, get a pair.  It will help you sleep at night.

These Alchemist blue light glasses ($25) are a little bit oversized, and look great on almost anyone.  They also come in tortoise. Prive Riveaux makes several other styles as well.  Looking for something more fashion forward?  I like this Quay cat-eye glasses.

It isn’t very often that readers of this blog speak with one voice about a product.  Usually, some love it, some loathe it.  But this Zojirushi Vacuum Bottle ($25) is universally loved.

This bottle keeps hot liquids hot, and cold liquids cold.  It also won’t spill.  So toss it in your bag, and go.

Another great option is this LARQ self-cleaning water bottle.  The bottle has a UV light built in to purify water and the bottle.  Keeps beverages both hot and cold for 12-24 hours.

When buying office art, you want something pleasing but nondescript.  This abstract Wake painting from West Elm ($90) is a good choice.  I also like this photo of a dark, stormy sea.  And this moody, gold-flecked work called Oh Susy.

Cuyana’s Mini Jewelry Case ($105) is the perfect gift for the frequent traveler.  Trust me, as someone who bought the big one, the small one is plenty big enough.  It keeps all your jewelry safely stored.

Wear a lot of necklaces?  This Mark & Graham case will keep them from tangling.  Looking for something cheaper?  This Pottery Barn option is an affordable $29.

I like a charging dock that lets me see my phone while I’m working.  It makes it easier to see and dismiss messages and notifications.  And it makes FaceTime or Skype a breeze.

This Native Union Dock ($80) is a great option.  I love the soft rose color (also in black).  Their minimal weighted dock (in three colors) is really chic, and $30.  Or go with this simple, wood multi-device charging dock from Urban Outfitters.

This Smythson Soho Leather Diary ($365) is the most luxurious planner ever.  So gorgeous.

The leather notebooks and agendas I like come from Graphic Image.  I like them because they’re refillable.  You can also find discounted options on Amazon.

I know they’re a bit of a splurge.  But I’ve had my Graphic Image notebook for almost 10 years.  It still looks new.  I just buy a new refill every few months.

One of my favorite gifts for co-workers, mentors and cubicle-dwelling friends is a planter with a succulent.  These carved wood mini-geometric planters ($58) are pretty fantastic.  I also like these rose gold, concrete planter and these happy, blue painted planters.

Need succulents?  Etsy has you covered.  These Red Pagoda Succulents are always a crowd pleaser.

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
