Picks from Sephora’s Big Sale

Aug 30, 2018

Are you a Sephora Beauty Insider? I don’t usually join in-store rewards clubs, but for Sephora, I make an exception.  And this sale, oh, this sale.  It is not to be missed.

The Sephora VIB sale offers different levels of savings based on your membership level.  Here’s the breakdown.

  • Rouge Members: 20% off with code YESROUGE, valid now through 9/3
  • VIB Members: 15% off with code YESVIB, valid 8/30 through 9/3
  • Beauty Insiders: 10% off with code YESINSIDER, valid 8/30 through 9/3

Now, there are two ways to approach this sale.  1) You can stock up on basics — foundation, concealer, blush, moisturizer, etc..  2) Or you can splurge on the tools or products that have caught your eye but not moved your wallet, yet.

Here are a few of the Sephora items that I’ve been loving recently.  Because who couldn’t use a new product to try?

Ouai Treatment Mask ($32)

My hair has been…crunchy, as of late.  The ends are like straw.  I bought this Ouai mask after hearing the founder, Jen Atkin, on a podcast.  The mask is one of the best that I’ve ever used in any price range.

Since starting the treatments two weeks ago, my hair is softer and more manageable with fewer split ends and flyaways.  I also divide the packets into thirds to use as conditioner, when my hair gets too dry for words.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder ($46)

Have imperfections?  We all do, but when it comes to the ones on our faces, help is at hand.  I love this powder because it smoothes, brightens, and blurs imperfections.  My favorite colors are the radiant light (for brightening, and blending in blush), and luminous light (for subtle highlighting and smoothing).

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum ($48)

If you’re new to serums, this is a good place to start.  It has vitamin-C and collagen to plump, brighten, and fight the early signs of aging.  It’s also oil-free for those of us with combination skin, but it’s somehow lightly moisturizing.

Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara ($14)

Okay, Pro Tip Time: I no longer buy full-size mascara.  I buy this mascara in the “sample size” to prevent spoilage.  You see, mascara only has a shelf life of 3-months once-opened before it starts to degrade and becomes loaded with bacteria.  So I was constantly throwing away half-full mascaras, what a waste.  So I’m going to stock up on several of the smaller size.

Dermaflash Facial Exfoliator and Peach Fuzz Remover ($189)

I don’t own this product, but I may be the only one of my friends who doesn’t.  It removed peach fuzz for smooth makeup application and exfoliates at the same time.  People swear by it.  So if you struggle with facial fuzz, watch the video on the page.

Briogeo Rose Crystal Energy Comb ($160)

This comb is a game changer.  The Rose Crystal infuses your hair with loving energy and positivity.

Just kidding, this is complete hokum.  I don’t even know who comes up with these things.  The power of healing, mystic crystals, but for your hair…  Don’t get sucked into the post-GOOP world.

Yes on the buying sample size mascara! I don’t remember where I picked up that tip but it was a game-changer for me!

  2. KLC says:

I ended up picking up Ole Henriksen’s Invigorating Night Transformation Gel per your recommendation a few posts ago… super excited to try it!

  3. Jessica says:

LOL! I HOPE to have the money one day to drop $160 on a COMB and think it was a good choice! This is hilarious.

  4. Em says:

I picked up the Drunk Elephant “littles” since I’ve been thinking about them since they were mentioned in a post ages ago. Excited to finally try them.

  5. SC says:

I’m going to place my order tonight — I want Drunk Elephant Baby Facial, the OH Truth Serum, a new lipstick (probably NARS), 3 mini-tubes of mascara, a new shade of the Hourglass ALP (I think Dim is too pink for me…), the Hourglass eyeliner, and a new eyelash curler. Gotta stock up for fall and winter! 🙂

  6. Jules says:

Don’t @ me, but I use the same mascara and eye shadow for everrrrr………… I seem to still be alive and healthy. That’s my dirty little secret.

  7. Sara says:

That Marc Jacobs mascara is my fave! And I definitely fall into the camp of “stock up and save” on this particular sale.

  8. Christine says:

This is a way less professional (and also much less expensive, although a terrible name) alternative to the Dermaflash. I use it about once a month and get the same peach fuzz removal results they show in the video.

  9. sbe says:

    The comb, LOL!

  10. Monica T says:

I went the route of stocking up on staples. This year I fell in love with the Peter Thomas Roth acne and Un-Wrinkle lines and my skin has never been so good. BUT, the products are pricey. I’m pretty sure there is another 20% deal during the holidays, so I tried not to go overboard, getting elevated to Rouge this year makes me double check my beauty budget sometimes! That said, the products work so dang good I will just have to cut out something else.

  11. Jenn says:

You made me LOL with that comb. If you can afford such silliness, more power to you. I can think of WAY better uses for $160! What a world. 🙂

  12. J says:

Stocked up on staples, which is basically sunscreen. Supergoop unseen sunscreen that Belle recommended a long time ago for my face and their regular sunscreen in a massive bottle for the body/kids/husband. We’ve been through two bottles so far (one during the last sale, and one not), so I’m buying two more. I also got the Hourglass Veil primer, which sucked me in with a sample. My makeup barely comes off with this primer, even after working out. I couldn’t believe it.
With this round, I’m now up to VIB status, so can’t wait for the next sale to do it again! Oh, and FYI, if anyone is doing Upromise for their kid’s 529 (similar to Ebates), Sephora is 5% cash back, so I’ve been getting a little bit of money for the college fund!

  13. GF says:

Belle, why don’t you like rewards programs?! I love them! I’d also recommend Nordstrom’s “Nordstrom Notes” rewards program, since you post a good amount of finds from there (which I appreciate!)

    • GF says:

Oh, and I went the route of stocking up for this VIB sale — on my fave marc jacobs crayon eyeliner! matte and gets the job done with no muss, no fuss in the mornings.

  14. Britt says:

Dying at that rose crystal comb thing! ????????????

  15. Kate says:

For a sec, when reading about the comb, I was like “this cannot be Belle’s recommendation” lol. Thanks for a good laugh.

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
