“The most damaging phrase in the language is: ‘It’s always been done that.'” — Grace Hopper

Centered. How implementing “core hours” can increase flexibility and accountability in your office.

Wrapped Up. This ASOS wrap maxi dress is going to be on heavy rotation.

Tindered. Why forcing women to make the first move doesn’t improve online dating.

Sprung. WHBM has amazing new arrivals.  This gorgeous pale lavender suit and this Black Halo inspired dress are both phenomenal for work.

Methodical. Keep your to-do list to six items to be your most productive.

Primed. Have you tried Amazon’s Daily Ritual brand? They have great cotton pieces (like this chic hoodie) in misses, plus, and maternity sizing.

Tracked. What 16 women learned when they kept track of their spending.

Ruffled. This Rebecca Minkoff sweatshirt is different for me, but I kind of love it.

Correction. Should I point out a job applicant’s mistakes to them?

Refreshed. Add these classic pearl studs to your jewelry box, or got for the bolder grey option.

Crisped. You will not believe that this is the secret to perfect roasted chicken.

Scrubbed. These Olay Daily Facials look like the greatest makeup removers, ever.

Whenever I wear winged eyeliner in my Instagram Stories people always ask me to share my secrets.  So here we go.  First, you need a fine-tipped eyeliner.  I like this liquid, or I dip this brush into eyeshadow to use other colors.  Second, I use Scotch tape to help get the perfect line.  Make the wing first and then, fill in the rest of the line in small strokes, staying as close to the lash line as possible.

I think an Instagram Stories tutorial on winged eyeliner would be great!

I do all of the hiring for our company, and I have lost track of all the mistakes and blunders people make mistake in applying for positions. I am now skeptical when someone says they’ve been looking for a job for awhile and nobody’s hiring. Are they not hiring, or are you not demonstrating that you are worth hiring?

    • Belle says:

Well, everyone makes mistakes in the hiring process. While I agree that some people are really not doing themselves any favors, I’ve had a lot of talented candidates make it to the last round of interviews and we decided to go a different way for a reason that had nothing to do with the person we rejected. Also, especially in the early part of the process when all they have is your resume, it’s very hard to separate yourself out from a pack of similarly qualified people when you don’t know much about what HR is looking for. I was once told by the person who would have been my boss to apply for a job, sent in a resume, called to express my interest, and didn’t hear back from HR. Called the man who told me to apply, and discovered that my resume had been rejected because (ready for this) “she talked about herself too much.” Um, who the hell else are you supposed to talk about on your resume?

So yes, people do get into a situation where they’re looking for a while, and there are a lot of reasons for that that may have nothing to do with them being unhireable.

Don’t you mean “It’s always been done LIKE that?” Or “It’s always been done that WAY?” 😉

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
