Commute: No. 26

Mar 16, 2018

“I can’t tell the difference between my intuition and my anxiety.” — Sophia Amoruso, basically speaking my truth on her podcast.

Lifesaver. Why mentoring women cannot be about saving them.

Basics. Everlane’s new utility jacket is perfection.  I also need to stock up on my favorite white tees, just $15.

Suppressive. How one woman married into the Church of Scientology, and why she reluctantly stayed.

Get Out. In this week’s new arrivals, this gold cuff, this fun striped jersey dress, and this work-appropriate fluted skirt.  All under-$80.

Upping the Ante. How to Negotiate for More…When You’re Already Getting That Promotion.

Yes, Please. I need Mr. Right and Mr. Right Now.  Their lipsticks, I mean.

Policies. Why you can be banned from making returns at Sephora (and lots of other retailers).

On Discount. These half-price LK Bennett heels are perfect for summer.  For the office, snap up these very affordable grey Michael Kors pumps.

Deep Dive. Facebook is keeping data on all of us.  Lots of it.  Here’s how you can see yours.

Brightness. Need sunglasses? I always start at Rack.  So many great deals.  I just snagged this Burberry pair for $80.

Keeping It Together. How to stay sane when your 9-to-5 is actually 24/7.

Rocked. These Etsy Herkimer studs are the perfect knock-off of the MJM earrings I’ve been lusting after.

Indefensible. How one women fought to change the law, after her family forced her to marry her rapist at age 11. Fight on, fighter.

What I’m Baking. These “Better Than Boxed” Brownies.  And I’m using the brownie pan I found on Amazon that gives every piece an edge.  Because the edges are the best part.

What I’m Watching. The NCAA Tournament.  The 98-year-old nun who is chaplain for Loyola-Chicago gives me life.

What I’m Wearing. My True & Co bras. I may never go back to underwire.

Sequins.  The one fashion trend I have loved since I was just a little tiny sassypants playing with Barbies in my bedroom.  Give me a sparkly accent and I’m a happy girl.  I don’t know what it is that makes me love them so — the shimmer, the festiveness, the ostentatiousness?

Regardless, I saw this photo and just wanted to drape myself in sequined fabric and take a run to the Safeway.  #yolo

I really wanted to love Everlane’s white tees, but after 6 months and maybe five wears, mine already has a hole. They’re sooo thin and see-thru, I don’t get the hype.

    • Belle says:

For a thicker tee, I go to the Gap. I don’t find them to be too thin. I like them for a semi-sheer tee.

Omg, I just made those brownies last night. Delicious! And the edge pieces are tastier on these guys for sure. That perfect combo of chewy and fudgey.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
