The Commute: No. 3

Jan 10, 2018

“If you’re not making mistakes, then you’re not making decisions.” — Catherine Cook

Keeping Time. I need a new desk calendar.  I’m choosing between this rustic, simple Hearth & Hand calendar ($10) and this Rifle Paper Bon Voyage Calendar ($18).

Buzz, Buzz.  The Atlantic discusses the “queen bee phenomenon” and why so many women prefer male bosses.  Maybe we need to start our search for gender equality in our own backyard?

Work Refresh. When I need affordable, trendy pieces, I always hit LOFT.  The best pieces they have for the office right now are these burgundy slides, this chunky cardigan, and these ribbon trim navy pants.

To Do List. The Vault Files covers 21 things you can do to start your New Year off right.  Finally, a little common sense in the 2018 planning.

Um, Question. It’s crazy to spend $400 on a mirror that guarantees better makeup application, right?  It is?  Good, good, just wanted to make sure.

Bad Behavior. Here are the 9 Worst Mistakes You Can Make At Work.  From over-promising to gossiping, did they miss any that drive you crazy?

Sleek Statement. Need a necklace that has an understated, but impactful presence?  This Gorjana crescent necklace, Stella & Dot Rebel, and this Laguna adjustable lariat all fit the bill.

Going Dry. Even if you’re not doing Dry January, we could probably all use to drink a little less.  Here are six ways to wind down without wine.

This photo has me thinking that I need a burgundy leather jacket.  Apparently, this Blank NYC Moto Jacket was the most-sold item by bloggers using Rewardstyle.  But I think I like this BB Dakota shawl collar jacket better.

Get the $130 version of that mirror. I tried it before Christmas at my local beauty supply and stared at my face for a good 5 minutes in the store. I’ve been waiting for them to have a sale so I can buy it!

  2. heatherskib says:

Does the mirror apply the makeup for you? Because that’s the only way I’m paying $400 for a mirror.

  3. Jenn S. says:

That mirror is insane. Like sure, it looks chic as all get-out (most SimpleHuman products do..) but ugh – just like the Dyson blowdryer, I can’t even.

    • RR says:

My sweet husband bought me the dyson blowdryer for my birthday. I’ve used it about a year and just now looked at how expensive it is after your comment. Totally crazy town. But I will admit that I do super love it. . .

  4. Judy says:

    Belle,

So glad you are heading back to DC. It’s good you know yourself, good to know what works best for you and, most importantly, you are putting outfit ideas back on the blog! I have always loved how you assemble pieces and have missed them.

Thank you for sharing your law school/CA journey with us and look forward to your what’s next for you.

  5. I have a jacket similar to this and really like it – https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/kut-from-the-kloth-drape-ponte-jacket/4821599?origin=productBrandLink
I definitely like that BB Dakota one better than the Blank one.

There are two kinds of people in this world: People who eat cake on their birthdays and people who don’t.  And some of the weirdos in the latter category (I said what I said) eat pie as an alternative.  So if you’re a “birthday pie” eater with a late summer celebration coming up, may I […]

The Find: Bright and Striped

For the past few years, the wardrobes of many influencers have tilted toward the beige and boring.  I’m all for a good basic, but staple pieces can only take you so far.  Sometimes, you need to wear something that has a little something extra, and this sale-priced tee certainly does.
