My kingdom for an awesome jersey dress…
Like many women, I am appalled by the lack of high-quality t-shirts and jersey dresses on the market. When did thin and see-through become the industry standard? So when I saw a Facebook ad for the brand Amour Vert, which promised heavier, softer fabrics, I figured that I had nothing to lose.
I ordered two dresses from Amour Vert: the Miley Softest T-shirt Dress ($128, 7 colors) and the Simonetta Dress ($128).
From the moment I removed them from the packaging, I was blown away. They were so soft. They felt substantial (esp. the Miley). The fabric was so luxurious, I hadn’t even tried them on, and all I could think is, “I need 20 more.”
The drape on these dresses is beautiful. The venting on the Miley helps keep you cool wearing such a heavy jersey. And the swingy shape on the Simonetta is perfect for summer.
I also ordered the Lucy Top ($118) in the stripe. Very cute with the tie front, but it wasn’t flattering on me. The other issue was the fabric, which was thinner than I had hoped. Think Banana Republic quality.
As for sizing, I took my true size (a small) in every item. The size guide seemed to be spot on, and they added information about the model’s height and size, which helps gauge fit.
Also, Amour Vert is very environmentally conscious. When I first visited the site, before I saw their clothes, I saw how voraciously they promote being a green company. They pride themselves on sustainability and the use of low impact dyes. They also plant a tree for every order they sell.
While my experience wasn’t a total victory, I am already planning to grab two or three more dresses for the remainder of this season and next. I am also going to grab a few of their t-shirts to get me through the fall. Suffice it to say, I am extremely happy that I found this brand. I will definitely be buying from them in the future.

The timing for this post is perfect- I just received my first order from Amour Vert yesterday and I couldn’t agree more. I ordered a pair of sneakers (Veja Esplar- love them) and the Paola High-Low tee. I took a chance on the tee ordering one of their final sale colors, and while it’s rather long on me (I’m 5’3″ barely), it is by far the softest fabric I have ever felt for a t-shirt. It’s thick and substantial and I just want to wrap up in it and never take it off. For the sake of comparison, until yesterday Marine Layer made my favorite t-shirts. Amour Vert takes it to a whole new level!
My recent “saw it on social” experiment was with Cupshe for 2 bathing suits. I think they have a solid price/quality balance- somewhere in the range of slightly better quality for about the same price as Target. I’ve only worn each suit once or twice, but for a city-dweller who doesn’t live in a bathing suit all summer, it certainly does the job at a decent price.

I love Amour Vert. I live in San Francisco, near one of their few brick and mortar locations, and I love this brand. My experience has been similar to yours. The classic basics are outstanding. The more trendy items are hit or miss. I can specifically recommend the long sleeve stripe t-shirt (I believe the Francois). I have it in multiple colors, and it is hands down the best striped shirt I have, and I have many. They also do some beautiful silk pieces. They prints are always gorgeous, but again, you have to be wary of the cuts. The trendy cuts can go pretty far afield, while classic things like blouses are usually spot on.

I take almost zero freebies for this blog. I never ask for anything and very rarely take anything that’s offered. And when I do accept something, it has to be an item I liked/bought/wanted before I got it free. For example, I bought several MM Lafleur dresses and reviewed them, liked them. A few weeks later, the company sent me another one. Now, they gift me one-two dresses a year, and I keep buying others for myself. I wouldn’t need the free dress to promote them, they’re great, but it’s a nice gesture since I’ve been told I should be charging them by several people. But why? The fear of free things isn’t that you’ll make an item you hate an item you like, it’s the risk that a so-so item is given an amazing review.
I flirted with sponsorship years ago, and only two or three brands were willing to let me write my real thoughts. Everyone else was like, “It must have four photos, say #rideordiestyle in the 7 social posts spread over five days, and the phrases “life changing” and “closet essential” must appear at least once.” When you have readers like mine, who have very high bullshit meters, why bother? Just buy what you want, post what you think looks cool/good, and move on. If a brand is willing to let me write my real thoughts (Lo & Sons, Dagne Dover, MM LaFleur, M Gemi) then I’ll see if there’s a way to make it work that has integrity to it, if not, skip it.
But for these social posts, I feel like I need to just buy the stuff.
And this is why I tune into your blog every week. I have abandoned so many other blogs out there because they read like ads and, which I get enough of everywhere else on social media (and frankly, feel insulting to my intelligence).

How would that simonetta work with a big bust? I like the style a lot.
It could be tricky. The key would be to buy a larger size than you normally wear so it will still hang straight.
The customer service at Amour Vert is fantastic. I have purchased several things from there over the past year (I’m trying to buy mainly from eco-friendly brands). On two occasions, I received a gift from them out of the blue. Once, it was a shirt. The other time, it was an air plant. I am not a blogger, so there is no reason to send me gifts, other than to show appreciation for my being a customer.
There was a nice card in mine with a thank you, and a little canvas bag that said I Am a Tree Hugger. Carrying it would likely get me thrown out of the GOP, but it was a nice gesture.
I’m wearing an Amour Vert shirt right now! It’s the striped blue/white crop top, which is a great, substantial top. I also have their red/white t-shirt dress. The fabric is wonderful, and they’ve also got me hooked on the Veja sneakers. Love, love, LOVE Amour Vert!

I recently purchased Amour Vert’s Casey t-shirt and it has that same heavier feel while being super soft. I’ve been really happy with the quality after years of trying to compromise with too-thin J. Crew t-shirts.
Can I say that I love this series and concept! There are so many interesting companies popping up but it’s hard to sort out the ones that just take a good Instagram photo to those that are actually worth purchasing. Can I request Third Love at some point?

I loved every bra. I went to re-order today, as a matter of fact, and they were sold out in my size so I’m just waiting. The one issue that cropped up between april and now is that the push up t-shirt bra doesn’t hold its shape very well. Love the regular t-shirt bra though.
What about Lively? Or True & Co.? I’ve seen a lot of ads from both and have been interested.
I tried True & Co. The bras were fine. I didn’t care for the mesh fabric they use.
I love Amour Vert! Like you though, I do find their pieces to be hit or miss sometimes on fits/styles. However, they are a truly green company that really wants to change the clothing industry. Did you know AV was formed by two former defense industry employees? They redesigned the clothing retail concept from top to bottom to make it as efficient as possible. They even use “green miles” to transport their goods. I just love their vision!
I’m of two minds whether to mention this, since I don’t want them all to sell out, haha, but Banana Republic’s new “couture” line of tees is gorgeous. I recommend both the bow-back and the bell sleeve. The weight of the fabric and the drape — it’s been a long time, if ever, since I saw t-shirts made of fabric this nice. I just discovered and bought them, so I haven’t washed them yet, but based on the fabric I have high hopes.

Similarly, I noticed that Gap’s new Modern and Ponte fabrics are better than anything I’ve seen in a store in more than 15 years. I know it’s been that long because I last found some opaque white t-shirts around 2000, and since then, I feel like everything has become more and more and more see-thought. While the Modern white was still too see-through for me (large bust, which stretches everything), the Ponte white top was the first one where I could not see my bra or my belly button since the early 2000s! And the other Modern tops and dresses are lovely and soft and thick – I’ve bought a bunch, and will likely buy more if they hold up well. I’m also trying an Amour Vert t-shirt, but it has not arrived yet, so I don’t know how they compare. Maybe someone is finally listening to the complaints about fabric?

I just received some Amour Vert shirts I bought in the mail, and I was pretty disappointed. I thought they were the answer to my eco-friendly, classy clothing, made-in-the-USA dreams, but the fabric is so thin (sheer when held up to the light), and it already looks fuzzy — kind of that “pre-pill” look fabrics get typically after many washings. One shirt even has a tiny run in the fabric, and there are threads sticking out all around the buttons. I will try to return them to a store within the return period since they charge a fee to return online, but I wanted to ask about the fabric durability — does it just look cheap, and will it actually hold up to washing okay, or will it deteriorate fairly quickly, which is how it appears? Thanks!
I’v had great luck with the dresses. But I too order a shirt this last week and was shocked by how thin it was.
