#7 – THANK YOU! The writer makes several great point about inadvertent gender divisions and how managers can be more mindful of them, but that point about asking the only woman in a meeting to take notes in particular is A+++++.

I have the Target crossbody in the teal color. I hate crossbodies though, so I carry it by the handle. It’s so cute!

    I second what “e” said!

Any ladies here have any tips on what to do when, as the only woman in the room, you’re asked to take notes for a meeting? This happened to me just last week, and while I was aware that it was playing into stereotypes, I wasn’t sure how to politely suggest that one of the guys could play secretary as well as I.

    • Belle says:

This used to happen to me a LOT. If someone suggests it, I take notes in that meeting. Then, I talk to the person who suggested it later. The last time I had this conversation with a 65+ yr old man, I just asked him, “Why did you suggest I take notes in the meeting?” He told me it was because I am the only one who actually pays attention most of the time. I told him that I appreciated that, but that it puts me in an awkward position being the only woman in the room, and the one asked to perform secretarial functions. I suggested that in future, we ask an intern to take notes (it also helps them learn how things work) or he simply rotate the duty around. He went with the intern suggestion, and the two of them just rotated in and out of meetings.

Cleaned out my closet this weekend as well, starting with a big bag going to ThredUp. I love the point about feeling like you have an overflowing closet and nothing to wear. I mostly had things I had invested a lot in, but no longer fit. I had already tried to have some items tailored to fit, but really, if it’s too big everywhere they never look quite right. And then you threw that good money after the bad! Feels good to start the new season with a clear vision of the actual gaps in my wardrobe, but with no immediate need to fill them. When I find the perfect piece I’ll know.

  5. Ruby says:

A tip that someone shared with me ages ago that actually helps when cleaning out closet: as yourself (assuming the clothing is otherwise appropriate for what you’re wearing it for) “How would I feel if I ran into favorite-ex/past crush/current crush in this? I’ve found that asking that question clarifies very quickly for people whether they feel great in something or not.

    • Meghan says:

This is the best advice I’ve seen about this! I always think, “do I love this?” and of course, yes, I bought it, but the question shouldn’t be about the clothes, it should be about how I feel wearing them. Thanks for sharing!

  6. Maddy says:

Are you a Veronica Mars fan, too?

    • Belle says:

      Of course!

      • Ruby says:

I’m glad it seems helpful, and I apologize for all the typos in the original (not sure what happened there!). I was skeptical of the advice at first, but really have found it helpful when deciding whether to buy something, whether to keep something, whether to walk out the door in an outfit. It focuses me on whether I feel my most confident in the clothing.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
