1) What does ‘black-tie optional’ mean anyway? And more fashion questions, answered. (Elle)

2) Everlane’s $65 silk shell is the perfect blouse for under your suit jacket, and comes in a wide selection of colors.

3) How much ambition can a marriage sustain? (The Atlantic)

4) Karen London makes the prettiest jewelry.  I love this moonstone band ring, and delicate  onyx necklace.

5) The lithium in your phone is being mined in exploitative conditions, because the more the world changes, the more it stays the same. (The Washington Post)

6) Warehouse has the best affordable fashions. For under-$75, you’ll find this tie-cuff dotted blouse, this ivory side split sweater, and this grey rouch detail dress.

7) Ask a Boss: What should you do when you’re doing your boss’s job for him? (The Cut)

8) Wolf makes the best travel jewelry boxes.  Never tangle your necklaces again!

9) Meet the man who cleans up after and crashes, and learn the stories of objects left behind. (GQ)

10) Have a candle lover on your gift list? How about a luxe Aerin candle snuffer or this $25 Bitters snuffer.

Hmmm might be a fluke, but I just was able to order the pink silk shell for just $1…with free two day shipping. Let’s see if the order actually goes through, but right now its says there are 19 more left at a buck each…

    • Ashleigh says:

I was able to do the same. It told me that there were 14 left. I checked the website and it is listed separately as $1 under silk shells and blouses.

  2. Carlie says:

I just did the same thing with the pink shell! Really hope it goes through.

    • Valerie says:

Darn, think I missed the fluke because every color is back at $65. Hope it works out for those who ordered the $1 ones!

      • Belle says:

I noticed that. I didn’t realize it would actually let you buy it for that. Good job to the ladies who caught it.

        • Anna says:

My order was shipped, and my cc statement says I was charged, though still pending, $2 (I got two)! Yay! I’ve been holding off on buying Everlane products, so this is an incredibly sweet way to try them out.

  3. Keilexandra says:

Elle gives some pretty bad advice about interviewing for a legal role at a tech startup. A flowy midi skirt with a blouse, really? To interview with guys in jeans and t-shirts? I actually agree with the advice to avoid jeans for a legal position, but pick a more androgynous (at the least, less fashion-y) outfit and you’ll be way more comfortable.

  4. Monica T says:

The Atlantic article is really fascinating to me. I know for myself I didn’t feel ready to have kids until I hit a certain place in my career where I could rest on my laurels for a decade without my career appearing to stagnate. I wouldn’t be moving up in the same leaps and bounds I had been in my 20s, but I had reached the level where I was expected to spend 10-15 years in the trenches before choosing to become a manager or stay technical. It isn’t something that can be rushed really.

Despite that, I don’t really see either my husband or myself as scaler backers. We are close to equal earners, and do equal work in the home and child-rearing. We have arranged our lives so that we can both pursue careers we enjoy and excel in, and also spend time together as a family. So I suppose we got lucky in that neither of us is ambitious in a way that means we put our career before our home life, we are just ambitious enough to be high-potential candidates in our chosen field.

  5. Anna says:

I’d love to be a fly on the wall at the date of the person who wears that Isabel Morant dress. Seriously? And I too ordered the pink shell. We’ll see what happens!

  6. Jennifer says:

I didn’t order the pink shell, but shouldn’t the model have been wearing a bra?

    • Anna says:

OMG, I hadn’t noticed it before, but now that’s all I can see! Sheesh, at least turn down the temperature in that room!

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
